The Republic has been a stalwart of the Canberra fine dining scene for well over a decade now.

But they also have a takeaway lunch menu, with most of the items priced at $8.30.

Today I wandered in, made my way to the bar at the back and chose the mustard chicken burrito from the blackboard.

Having been advised it would take 10 minutes I wandered into Glebe Park and back to find my burrito waiting.

Health conscious readers will be delighted to know it’s a very light eat.

The grilled chicken has a coating of seeded mustard which gives a pleasant but subtle flavour.

It’s a refined luncheon option.

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

Fine dining?

They do get a band of old customs employees frequenting the place.

Not a bad place for lunch but other better options around.

I had no idea that they were wtill open…

I had no idea Republic offered a take-away lunch menu – they certainly don’t advertise very well. Anyhoo, gave them a try yesterday and would happily recommend them to others.
