The Russell roadworks as a foursquare destination

Canberra has been slow to embrace foursquare, the geo-location broadcasting social networking thingamy.

Possibly this is because Canberrans are too sensible, or possibly because our businesses don’t want to give discounts to their most regular sources of business.

But I’ll admit to being smitten with the idea of the Parkes Way / Kings Avenue roadworks having been added as “Russell Daily Traffic Tragedy”.

Currently the electronica maestro Josh C is the Mayor (as in the most frequent check-in).

Maybe we’ve been slow to adopt Foursquare because we realise that it’s merely a tool to seriously annoy your friends.

Canberrans are smart, you see. 🙂

I’m not for certain what foursquare is…. But one thing I use daily is an app for my smartphone called trapster.

It alerts you to car accidents, road closures, live police, school zones etc – I always chuck that app on when i’m in the car so I don’t come across any delays.
Dunno why forsquare is doing something similar if its about friends and discovering new places?

Foursquare isn’t, it’s about cafes and bars. the Russell thing is a joke, insert humour module!

Actually the peculiar thing is that over the last few months, most mornings I’ve driven through that intersection about 8:30am and the traffic has been……not bad at all.
