sheep returned

In March Canberra suffered a terrible blow with the vandalisation of Ainslie’s Sheep in City Walk.

Since then a great void has filled that mighty avenue.

But no longer! Vonbare this morning tipped us off that the sheep is back!

Here’s the damage from March:

And here’s a closeup of the repair work:

Will the repaired sheep be proof against ravages of Civic’s drunken vandals? Only time will tell.

If readers feel the need to pose with the returned sheep they should feel free to mail the photos in to images@the-riotact.com .

Listening to the wireless on the trip into work this morning solved the mystery.

A drunk forklift driver was responsible. Only caught the end of the stroy but other riotactors may have the full story.

First time I’ve seen a mention of public art in RiotACT without ANY negative comments. Are the so-called Philistines on holiday?
Or maybe they just like sheep?

No negative comments because it’s engaging, appropriate public art!

i didn’t think drunken vandals carry metal cutting tools in their back pockets… maybe that explains why hipsters wear their pants so damn low…

Trouble is, it’s cast aluminium (albeit probably with steel rod supports). You don’t actually need any particular hardcore tools to break it.
The repetitive motion of people rocking it back and forth over time would be enough to weaken it.

Would have been kinda cool to have one in the sequence looking sadly at the absence of sheep.

Or looking evil, holding a circular saw. Missed opportunities indeed…

Yay! I’ve been taking a photo of my daughter sitting on one of those sheep every time we pass them (which is not often) for the past 4+ years. It would have been sad if the series got interrupted.

i still think the one sitting is just plain wrong.

You’ve never seen a sheep being shorn?

and +1 @ Thumper

Yes, but very few sitting like that in a chair.
