Success has many fathers, while failure is an orphan.

The Gallery is congratulating itself for the wildly successful Masterpieces from Paris exhibition with a blockbuster of a media release (just look at all those speakers!).

All up they reckon they’ve had 476,000 visitors, bringing $94 million into the ACT economy.

Now what are they going to do to top it?

I just hope that the next time we have an exhibition of this calibre that someone at NGA or ACT Govt has enough forethought and inspiration to extend the opening hours beyond 9 – 5. That was a bit of a joke.

The ACT Govt would have clawed back the entire $500k in parking fines issued to all the interstate and local visitors. Parking around the NGA was chockers for the last two months, and cars would end up parked illegally everywhere.

Once a day the bombers would do a run around the area, and there were plenty of cars wearing a yellow envelope when their owners returned…

Credit should also go to the ACT Government for its investment in getting the exhibition off the ground.

Correction – it was ’92, I was 18.
Not that I can imagine it making any difference. Do people generally worry about things like that, or am I just insane?

Don’t answer!

What a great result.

Hells_Bells – shame you didn’t look more at the art back when you were The Tamponator.

Wow! That’s pretty good. It was ultra familiar though.

I will admit it’s the first exhibition in so many years that has actually grabbed my attention nothing since the Renaissance and Surealism exhibits (which I didn’t end up getting to see).

It’s funny, because back when I was 17 and cleaning sanitary bins for a living, I had to go in once a month (very early in the morning) and locate and clean 46 bins in the ladies’. Got to see a few exhibits then, without the crowds. It’s just a shame I didn’t appreciate the arts more then and I had a job to do. Not to mention having a friend there would’ve been nice.

Because something always stops me either from finding out about certain exhibitions or having the money, friends and timing now I’m grown up.

But I should make more of an effort and find the time/money and go by myself. At least if it’s a biggy, it should be on RiotACT and I won’t miss it.

Yep that’s an original idea now isn’t it.

Agreed Thumper. A great effort all round.

Whilst it’s certainly arguable that this was the ‘greatest’ exhibition held at the ANG, It has certainly turned out to be the most popular.
