The sky brought down to earth. Manhattan demolition winds up

civic demolition

The demolition on Akuna Street to pave the way for the Manhattan Apartments has been a subject of ongoing fascination.

John has sent in another great set as the diggers in the sky come down to earth with this note:

Here ya go, today’s ground-breaking activity. You can see where the digger is breaking through into the underground carpark. (pun present)

The scaffolding is being dismantled, the big crane has gone, after lifting out the ratta tatta diggers on the remaining levels, it’ll be interesting to see how the remainder is brought down. Wrecking ball? Smaller controlled demolition? Bring Tony Abbott on site? Each is a valid option.

“Well, you could say Abbot has wrecked our democracy by removing the opposition from credibility, not that i like our current govt. one bit, but really, it’s all there is with that acidic little creep leading the other side. “

You haven’t been reading the news lately, have you. If you had you would have heard the figure “26%” mentioned

+1. Tony Abbott is not the wrecker…

C’mon, Abbott is just doing his job — opposing, and holding government to account. Sadly, Gillard is far from doing her job — leading the nation — properly. Blaming others for her own poor job performance is sad to watch and can only work so long. Eventually employers (in this case the public) get sick of this kind of behaviour and underperformance and give the employee the boot.

now that i got that off my chest — how did this degenerate into a political discussion? We were supposed to be talking about the engineering marvel of demolishing one building while leaving the one attached to it standing. There should be a riotact rule that says the first person to mention Tony, Julia or Carbon tax in non cmth govt related discussion topics gets banned for two days, or has to buy other rioters beer (or carbon credits, whatever turns you on). Let’s make it take effect from this sentence onwards.

I note your little aside suggesting that Tony Abbott is a wrecker. A curious observation, given the enormous damage Julia Gillard is doing to the country. Who is the real ‘wrecker?’

That said, either of them would hold more than enough wrecking power to bring this, and the surrounding 3 blocks, down flat, in about 3 to 4 seconds!

What no implosion inviting the public to come and look……

I’m surprised the government didn’t advertise this event and entice all of canberra to come watch the demolition from glebe park. It would have been a great day out

oh wait …

We were in Glebe park with a few families and lots of kids on Saturday and loved watching the huge crane lift diggers and drills and even skip bins in and out of the site. Kept kids and adults alike entertained for a while 🙂

Honestly, who comes up with the names for these developments? “Manhattan”? That is just embarrassing. Worst name since SkyPlaza.
