The ESA has just posted the following note:

    Smoke across the A.C.T

Winds this morning are responsible for blowing smoke across some areas of the A.C.T from a fire in the Tallaganda State Forest near Rossi in NSW. There are currently no fires in the A.C.T.

So don’t panic.

So there is a crapload of smoke over our fine capital tonight.
Smells closer than I am accustomed to. Anyone know what the deal is with the smoke tonight?

Worst I have seen here in the last 6 months.

I could see the thick smoke going up yesterday, but that’s interesting it’s on the Jinglemoney trail. for some reason I thought that was further south than where this was. Well I’ve learned something.

I’m surprised it’s dry enough in those ranges to burn. soem of the loveliest bushland around, very tall straight trees like a cathedral, and good land.

And Ramblingted, you will pay for that comment! There are even new cars in qbn now, so there.

I just hope it doesn’t destroy Queanbeyan, and cost hundreds of dollars worth of damage…

Are the petrol tanks full?

don’t panic, he says. already had a small twinge of “oh, no, not again”….

but the radio reassured me, then RA confirmed it.

There’s a little more information on the NSW RFS website.

I’ll let you know if it starts heading your way.

And if we don’t hear from you then can we assume that the worst has come to pass…?

Seriously though, hope that the bush fire season is well behind us and that any fire would be quickly brought under control.

Bush fire has a recurring cycle of four years (at least that’s what I was told). I hate to say this but I fear that Canberra might be well overdue since the tragedy of 2003.

Like I always complain: where is that bloody rain???

I’ll let you know if it starts heading your way. As it’ll have to go over/through me. And Queanbeyan… so you’ll know about it.

oh – and Rossi is only about an hour away from Tuggeranong….

Barring weird weather though it’s pretty unlikely to come this way.

The easterly started up around 11pm last night, quite sprightly and bringing with it cool mountain air, and then smoke. There was quite a big fire started up yesterday, over in the Talleganda ranges looking towards Palerang. I would’ve thought it was close to Forbes Creek, rther than Rossi though.

unless you live in tallaganda state forest near Rossi…

Thank you. I was wondering what it was.

Yeah, I just heard a helicopter go overhead at 8am as well, which is rare.

I didn’t ever know where Rossi was before now.

Not that far away really…
