I actually wholeheartedly agree with this. I didnt cope well with bullying as a kid & still often dont now at 39 but I am coming along.

People who bully usually have extremely low self esteem.

If you’re not interested in the guy (or think he’s a tool) just ignore the story – it is quite possible – my husband would have no idea who Steve Tucker is – but I am a sucker for a human interest story so I bother reading about it. I think we’re all overwhelmed by the insta-celebritisation via the use of new media by the old media (yeah don’t accuse me of doing a Poisetti here) and thats what makes this story interesting rather than boy meets girl – boy can’t work out follow-through etc etc.
Also because people want the movie ending of walking over hands in the subway/”will you marry me” on the half-time screen at the baseball match and the group email feels like today’s way of making that happen.

Of course when the real world of working in a large public enterprise and the blogosphere/twittervers/etc collide it always goes pear-shaped.

Mind you – he did only use email and its not like he forwarded a racist joke or anything – its the media jumping on the facebook images that gets it all frenzied.

It sounds like Steve’s bosses handled it all very appropriately – they told him it wasn’t the correct use of email and then wished him all the best.

As usual sanity prevails.

BTW did anyone read Sam di Brito’s original piece in his column last week? It was pretty scathing of Steve Tucker. Tucker is responding to di Brito’s piece (which was taken down), not a stand alone justification.

You say that like it’s a bad thing?
I think the anonymity allows people to express their real feelings. It makes the site much more interesting and real.
As for Tucker,
after reading that massive essay I still think he stuffed up and should have been punished.
And although he explained himself fairly well, I did think he comes off a bit whiny- he definitely knows how to overthink things.
But hey, each to their own, good luck to him.

Sounds like he listens to Linkin Park? So what! He’s young; where else is he going to find the words to express how he feels if not through the music that touches his heart.

I fully appreciate how personal issues (physical issues) can shut a person down so they miss out on all the joys life can provide us. People who are born ‘perfect’ have no idea what it is like. It is indeed a journey of the most massive kind when a person decides to reach out their hand and take what is rightfully theirs rather than sit back and watch it pass by…again. Go Steve. You are a pearl and the world is your oyster!

No one is born perfect, what would make you think they were? Everyone has issues, but not everyone has to broadcast them in the same attention crying manner that Steve has now done.

He made a mistake. He shouldn’t try to justify it to the world, he should justify it to himself and STFU. As I said, his email simply made him come across as an immature angsty teen with an ability to document his verbal spew.

I also never said “Sounds like he listens to Linkin Park?”, I said the email sounds “…like a 17 year old angst diatribe by someone who listens to Linkin Park”. I would attempt to explain this, but if you can’t even read posts correctly, there isn’t much point. Also, if you unfamiliar with the teen angst listeners of Linkin Park, it’s something you wouldn’t be able to comprehend anyway.

And what’s with the saying “You are a pearl, and the world is your oyster”? Does that mean that he is a product of an alien particle into an established system, and is isolated and armoured so as to not infect the rest of the system?

Perhaps it means he is a bright, shiny pearl, and he is stuck in the confines of a cold, wet, odd-smelling world that won’t let him go join a necklace?
