The sunny side of Marriage Equality, the spiteful ignorant nutballs it upsets

While I have some serious reservations about using gay and lesbian couples in kamikaze waves against the Abbott Government there is a plus side to yesterday’s love in at the Legislative Assembly.

Staggeringly ignorant Queenslanders really don’t like it:

The sexually sick creeps that live in the Australian Capital Territory are about to let there sexually sick Labor and Green Government legalize Buggery between consenting males and females. These low life Governments like the ACT Gov will soon approve adoption of children for these Fagarts, and forced classes in schools on Buggery. Don’t laugh the ACT is full of twisted creepy public servants who are sexually twisted. The ACT should be disbanded and broken up between Victoria and NSW and )Parliament House moved to Sydney which should be the Capital of Australia…Quote from Paul Keating.)

Those still with their panties in a bunch over it should give a great deal of thought to the company they’re keeping.

And thanks to Bigfeet for the reminder below:

marriage equality

While an interview may seem like like the journalistic equivalent of making hobos fight, the fact is, Mr G is a long time contributor to this site. As such, I think it is entirely reasonable for JB to request an explanation for his comments, even if they were made on a different site.

Readers will be thrilled to know I’ve tweeted a request to Mr G for an interview.

Fascinated what he’s so angry about.

Why would you do this other than to poke fun at his opinion? It’s pretty obvious that you’ll just be riling up to advance your own personal views, and while this could be funny it doesn’t show much in the way of journalistic integrity.

I don’t see any integrity issues there. What’s wrong with giving someone a forum in which they can air their views? If their views are worthy of derision, and they make themselves look silly then that’s not the fault of the interviewer.

At the risk of raising the ire of our mods, it’s pretty obvious that this is a piss-take. There are several stories all bagging anyone who disagree with gay marriage, including this one. To have a story dedicated to laughing at ‘spiteful ignorant nutballs’ suggesting we talk one such nutball for a balanced view is, to my opinion, ridiculous.

His twitter confirms what we’ve all suspected for a while: He is nuts, nuttier than squirrel s**t, do we really want to sink to the level of publicly humiliating the mentally challenged?

I think we should deride the deliberately and wilfully offensive

Why go all the way to QLD, when we have our own Mr Gillespie right here?

That’s clearly out of context, if you scroll down his twitter feed it’s clear he has nothing but love intended in his tweets.

Mr G is a lover, not a fighter!

A lover of television presenters especially…

No need for the Queensland hating. There were only three commenters on there who identified as being from Qld. Admittedly, they were all batshit crazy….

Yeah, those horrible people wanting treat everyone equally.

Talk about “whoosh”. Treating people equally should mean not calling anyone who has a different opinion or beliefs system to them offensive names.

He’s giving the bloke the opportunity to expand on his 140-character tweet. Can’t fault that.

Give him enough rope to hang himself, you mean? Sure, I’d agree if he were a public figure of some sort, but giving a platform to a crazy old-man spouting borderline psychotic nonsense from his computer just seems low. I’m not saying it won’t be hilarious, just that it doesn’t serve any purpose and it’s pretty mean.

Hell yeah. However, IMHO he’s intellectually challenged and he advocates bigotry, so that makes it ok. Surely the role of the press is to expose his bulls*** for what it is: bullshit!

Look, I don’t want to cast aspersions on Mr G’s sexuality (much), but I find it strange that someone who is so opposed to gays and gays marrying is also a big fan of the Australian TV show Prisoner which has iconic status in the gay community.

I love leftists and their arguing logic. “Evil, hateful, homophobes, cavemen, ignorant, spiteful – why can’t these revolting bigots stop being so hateful and intolerant of other people’s beliefs?”

I hope we can see a similar post about the sunny side of the high court overturning the legislation and the folks it upsets (and resultant bile).

Yeah, those horrible people wanting treat everyone equally.

What a bunch of “leftists”

If one side wants to laugh at the other, surely reciprocation is in order?

Laugh away, chuckles.

Wow……while I think this is all a waste of time and all the resources put/will be put into this could be used better elsewhere I am not really against it nor could I ever get to that level of ignorance (for want of a better word).

Thats just bad.

Wow…. Just wow….

Very sad.

Who me or Mr Gillespe? 😛

Haha, apologies for any confusion.

Mr Gillespie, of course.

Just like those leftists who called those who were preventing women from voting sexist and misogynist. Boy were they wrong. Oh wait…

This comment really is the pick of the bunch:

“This is very bad – A very sad day for Australia indeed!

As I have always said – Get rid of the queer sexually disoriented white women in this country (like Abbott’s f*cking sister) and get some decent Asian women down here and breed these queer retards out!”

SO much magic going on there.

I wonder if that was my brother……he lives in QLD & is married to a Filipino somewhere between 20 & 30 years his junior (we really dont know how old she is) and has this attitude.

There is so much wrong with the arrangement (its really not a marriage) that I dont know where to start.

What we really need here in the Sodom and Gomorrah of the South is some bi-curious televangelists, such as:

http://www.gq.com/news-politics/newsmakers/201102/pastor-ted-haggard?printable=true

perhaps the Deep North has a few spares tucked away that they can send in our direction.

I am suspicious of the wording of Joe’s spray – looks deliberately dumbed-down to me. Whatever the case, there’s a reasonable chance that he, or his father, have been the victim of pedo-priests, so maybe there’s some context and extenuating circumstances to his verbal assault.

“Those still with their panties in a bunch over it should give a great deal of thought to the company they’re keeping.”

I’m sure they’re perfectly comfortable in such company.

If you extend status you diminish it (infinitessimally) but these trolls have very little going on in their lives to be proud of.

Perhaps if they spent less time worrying about what someone else does and concentrate on their own crappy lives, they could probably improve them. Maybe even get a hobby that stops them from getting the sweats over what someone might be doing.

I wonder whether his opinion will change when he finds out that NSW Parliament is planning on introducing a marriage equality Bill in the near future.

I really don’t understand the resistance to it.

If some gay people get married it dosen’t hurt me so why should I care what they do?

I believe we should be able to do whatever we want as long as it dosen’t negatively effect others.

If they want the peice of paper (as do hetro couples) to live as they are living anyway who am I to stop them or even care, that is other than caring that another human is not getting treated equally in whatever area the discrimination is occuring.

The issue is status anxiety.

Something needs to be done about global population control, so the more gays the better.

Wow. There are some seriously backwards, hateful and scary comments on that thread.

Live and let live, people. My wife doesn’t agree with gay marriage due to her religious upbringing and beliefs (I don’t have any problem with it myself and would advocate for it if necessary), but she certainly doesn’t deny their life choice and right to be safe and happy (as much as anyone can be, anyway) and supports their right to equality – just not the use of the term marriage.

Hateful bigots like those posting on that thread are also likely to have “F**k off we’re full” stickers on their utes too.

I’m ashamed of Australia’s rednecks.

Reminds me of the old adage: Every time a Southerner moves to Queensland it increases the average intelligence of both states.

I’m surprised a queenslander wrote that. They probably got help from someone from another state.

I honestly don’t know why people just have to get up in the business of others. Gay marriage doesn’t cause any harm, you don’t have gay people busting down doors and forcing you to watch them consummate the marriage. Where is the direct personal harm? There is none.

Gay marriage has already happened in many other countries around the world, how come our society in Australia hasn’t fallen to bits? Are we protected by some mysterious no-homo international barrier that protects us from overseas gay marriage? How does someone getting married in the ACT affect someone living in the QLD or WA any more than it does for someone married to the same sex in Auckland or San Francisco?
