The ABC is warning that hundreds of Tamils are threatening to descend on The Lodge today in protest over their losing the long running Sri Lankan civil war.

The demonstrators will move their protest from the Prime Minister’s residence in Sydney to The Lodge in Canberra today.

Organisers say they are expecting several thousand protesters to descend on The Lodge, after around 800 protesters demonstrated peacefully outside Kirribili House in Sydney over the long weekend.

Looks like a good way to alienate any sympathy the broader community might have had for their cause, but hey that’s their perogative.

How are they alienating anyone JB?

I drove past this afternoon on the way home and they were set up in the park on the Parliament side of the Lodge, not causing any disruption to anyone, just waving some banners, with half a dozen bored looking coppers standing nearby.

Certainly not thousands, but maybe two hundred or so. Just trying to get their point across but I cant see how they would alienate anyone.

But also, I can’t see what they think Rudd can do either.

Protesting over losing a war? ‘It’s not fair. They had more soldiers and guns and stuff than we did, and the SL govt refused to consult with us on what outcome we wanted for the war.’

This promises to set a fascinating precedent.

What do they expect Australia to do? Go to the SL govt and say “Look. We know that technically you’ve been winning the war by killing more of their fighters than they can handle, but would you mind surrendering anyway and agreeing to their demands?”

Maybe Rudd should just say “sorry” – I mean I’m sure another hollow gesture like that will go a long way to soothe the Tamils.

Falung Gong are still out there protesting in front of the Chinese embassy every day Shauno.

I wonder if Rudd will get the Federal Police to block the protest like he certainly would if they where protesting against the Chinese. Being a closet member of the Chinese communist party like he is.

I wonder if they’ll bring their terrorist organisation’s flags with them?

Good cause or not, what the hell do they think Rudd is going to do to fix the problem? He isn’t friggin magic!
