What really irritates (and astounds) me is the poor quality of the imagery provided by these “cameras”. It’s almost universally useless.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single piece of surveillance camera footage that would allow someone to immediately say “Oh yes, that’s Barry my next door neighbour pulling that burg”

We have a very expensive security setup at work, and I’ve seen it repeatedly fail to provide useful imagery of the various chook rooters who’ve come by to vandalise the place, break into our cars, do donuts in the carpark etc. An upgrade is in progress, but I don’t hold out much hope for improvement.

Even the footage of those clowns vandalising the statue in Civic last week was abysmal.

Yes, and they’re very reasonably priced from what I’ve heard.

Can’t speak for this particular store but typically these retailers do. Often they’re connected to a DVR that holds the footage for days, even weeks. Furthermore, some stores have dual surveillance systems, one everyone knows about and managers have access to and another exclusively operated by the head office, presumedly to catch any fraud by managers (which has been known to happen). The systems will also often have live view monitors around the store and/or in the admin areas out back which in conjunction with panic alarms under the counters allows managers to see if something is going on.

Put simply, it’s very hard to do something like this and not be recorded, even if something is an inside job.

It’s not at all surprising that the offender was dropped off in Turner, Speaking to people who live in the area, Turner and Watson are hives of drug and property crime. Some have been known to have their vehicles broken into multiple times in a day.
