Images of Canberra - The trees were much smaller then

Stephen has sent in some pictures he had made from old slides he found when cleaning out his grandfather’s house. Vinnie diving readers will be thrilled to see what their clothes looked like when new.

I’ve inverted some of the slides which I could tell had been reversed along the way and done some minor colour enhancement to a couple.

I’m going to be greedy here, and ask if there’s any chance of the ‘original scans’?

I can try my ‘big brown puppy dog eye’ look if that helps?

“a significant time gap between slides 4 and 6 – any idea of the dates?”

I’d say circa 1958-60 for slide 4 and circa 1968 for no. 6

Fantastic stuff. Love the pre-Anzac Pde shot.

The lady in the second-last photo looks like she’s having a slash into the fountain.

Maturity aside, I’m pretty sure 3, 4 and 6 are taken from the War Memorial; 1 and 5 are taken from the same place (Civic Square) and my best guess for number 2 is that it’s Constitution Avenue, approximately where CIT is today.

Civic Square (where the legislative assembly is) looking towards Ainslie Av, pre-Canberra Centre.

These rock. Where is the first one taken?

EH wagon in #1 is probably close to new 🙂

Obviously a significant time gap between slides 4 and 6 – any idea of the dates?

It would be interesting to take photos today from the same spots and compare the sets.

I like the 4th picture, so much open space.

Well my email address is there.

I’m reasonably happy with what we’ve got though.

Hey jb, I’ve done a bit more colour correction on some of those pics. How do I send ’em to you if you want ’em?
