Canberra’s festival season shows no sign of slowing down. The next big thing to step out into the city in the name of showing you a good time is the Village Festival.

From their website:

The Village is a beautiful, beguiling festival that exists to provide an intimate environment in which professional and non professional artists and audiences can meet each other in bliss. The programming esthetic is populist, accessible, quirky, and littered with the familiar and the exotic. Folks you know personally and things you never knew existed.

The Village runs from the 21st-24th of March and contains a bunch of local and interstate talent performing a wide variety of shows, most of which are free.

The program is up, have a peek.

There is so much fantastic thing on, I just want to point out a few I’m particularly interested in.
The Oddhouse. A tiny tent containing series of short shows by the wonderful Pablo Latona.
When Claude met Roxy. Erotic Finger Puppet show. What else can I say?
Dirt Babylon. A theater piece containing the fantastic creepy costumes you see above and below.
Super Bloodword II. Because it’s going to be totally awesome and I am completely objective about this.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Super Bloodword II is my show.

To plan your visit to The Village Johnboy, why not visit some of the cooking demonstrations (including ‘samplers for the crowd’) at the World Kitchen before grabbing some lunch?

10am-11.30am: Laotian cooking demonstration and workshop
10am-11.30am: Kids Pantry vegetarian cooking demonstration and workshop
11.30am-1.30pm: Telopea Park Primary School will be cooking and serving crepes (savoury and sweet)

For more substantial fare, local caterer Rob Gouth will be offering sourdough breads, roo burgers and pumpkin soup, and Lifeline will be belting out sausage sizzles (and vegetarian options) and other snacks throughout the festivities.

Cheers,
The Centenary team

The best time for lunch is when you are hungry.

Yes entry to the festival grounds is free. However you do need to pay to attend some of the shows. Paying on the day is fine.

It would be great to be able to download the poster from the site …

I found that website rather confusing. Am I right in thinking that entry to the site is free, but particular events, such as the Poetry MMA have a charge? Can you pay on the day?

There is almost too much on at the moment (or soon).

Just a gentle warning. You will have to wade through about 600 school kids who are there for a fresh produce market day.

When’s a good time to get lunch thursday?

In the background of the second photo! It appears to be Sourdough Man and his dough mixer! There will be loaves of sourdough bread, cups of pumpkin soup, hot spiced apple juice and KANGAROO hamburgers. In fact a cup of soup and burger might be the best two course $10 lunch available in civic while the festival is on.

We will be reviewing the lunch on Thursday!
