The words of the prophet are written on the junction boxes?

By johnboy - 9 June 2009 17

Someone’s been scrawling this on bits of urban infrastructure around town.

Others will disagree but me, I want to say thank you.

On the darker days I’ve found it something of a comfort to round a corner and take some advice.

Saw the same thing on one of the TransACT boxes on Gould St, Turner.

Your photo looks like O’Connor, just near Lyneham shops…?

It’s very unfashionable politically incorrect to be outraged by graffiti but I reckon such crap, too trite to even make the bottom of a calendar, is 1000% worse for being sprayed around public places. It’s ugly, it’s destructive, it costs (us) to be removed and it sends a signal that it’s ok to do anything you feel like, wherever and whenever. Which is not the sort of society I want to live in.

‘Eternity’ famously graced Sydney public spaces for many years but a) it was written very elegantly, so it looked good, b) it was somewhat more mysterious and less banal than other graffiti (like above), and c) it was written in chalk, so no clean up costs.

Wasn’t it Winston Churchill who said ‘Never ever ever ever give up.’ I believe he may have studied philosophy at the same university as our graffitist.

Likewise, that frog with his hands choking the bird who is swallowing him. Another alumnus.

On a similar note, one of my favourite things on the internet ever is You Are Beautiful (send them some stamps to get stickers).

That reminds me, I have a similar pic I’ve been meaning to share for a while too… I’ll dig it up when I get home.

Perhaps it’s a message to the TransACT techs.

A statement that could have so many different meanings depending on the situation of the reader. Deep.

I have things like that printed on the little calendar day thingies on my desk. There’s a new one every day!
