There's no such thing as a free chicken

free chicken

This in from Steve sighted in Supabarn Civic:

“Ladies and gents. It’s bargain time. Free chicken. Yes! You heard right. Free chicken! Get your free chicken here today. Save $1 and pay only $11.99. Hurry now. Free chicken in aisle 12. Cheap as chips!”

And what’s up with the price of chips? Really, it’s just potato chopped and fried in a bit of oil. Now they come in bags, pre cut and frozen, it couldn’t be easier. But order a bowl of chips, the nation’s simplest food, and you will pay what? 8? 9? 10 dollars? Sometimes $11.99!

Daylight robbery!

So chickens are like buses.

Simple. It’s for the vegetarians.

To salve their conscience at buying stuff from the planet-raping Superbarn Evil Corporation™, they can pay $11.99, and Superbarn will free a chicken into the wild.

There’s a little asian food shop at Southlands that sells ‘hard’ chicken as an option.

Of course that would be free range chicken you silly sausages..

Well that’s an awfully big presumption right there. For all we know, Supabarn really did get the chooks for free and has just put a bit of a markup on top!

(or maybe the $11.99 is for… uhhhh… shipping and handling? 12 month warranty???)

OP – you are right, it couldn’t be Easter, it’s the wrong time of year. But I am not sure what Easter has to do with chips, chickens and eggs I can believe though I guess

Even more surprising is that no one has mentioned that they suspected foul play..

Of course that would be free range chicken you silly sausages..

There was some bloke a few years back that was running for a seat in the ACT City Council (aka. ACT Legislative Assembly) and his sole policy was to give out “Free Battery Chickens” (he never did say whether the batteries were included or not). From memory, I think he managed to get a whole two votes.

nice that his mum voted too

I remember the days where $3 worth of chips would feed 4or5 growing school kids.
These days at some takeaways you cant even order $3 worth, and minimum order of around $4 is a mere handful.
