Therese Rein says "if" to Lodge move

Strangely, most media reports about Therese Rein’s “fact finding mission” to Canberra except for this one from ABC chopped out a key (to Canberrans anyway) bit at the end of her quote. Her full grab was:

“I’m actually on a fact-finding mission really to find out about possible schools for [our son] Marcus and to go back and have a discussion with him about what the options might be if we move down here.” [Al’s emphasis]

Disappointing given the pretty clear assurances given, that there would even be an “if” in that statement, particularly after the hoo-hah from Labor about the extra costs caused by everyone trucking up to Kirribilli all the time.

And how does one offer the requisite security on a suburban house in Brissy?

It wouldn’t be a good way to kick things off…

maybe before Rudd sends his son to Marist College he may want to send the Feds in (armed with batons) to make sure that all of the kiddie fiddlers out back in the monastery are gone…along with their front office protectors!

Ruddling is a Brisbane Grammar School student until otherwise publicly advised, I’m guessing.
But Canberra Grammar could have the shadow of Patrick Keating’s drinking adventure hanging over it.
Or the YouTube bullying & brawling videos which only recnetly got taken down (but others keep showing up).

Can’t confirm or deny cazjs report, but I do know Marcus Rudd was at Radford earlier this week. Given that that was after cazjs post, it leads to speculation that Rudd jr’s school of choice is yet to be decided.

Strange Rudd is an ex-Marist (Ashgrove, Brisbane) student, but on Facebook his staffers added him to Marist Canberra’s old-boys group. 😐
The Morrisey&Sidorko pairing would have been excited all over themselves if Therese showed up there and expressed an interest.

Mmm, profound

Do they have fagging there?

My sources at Boys Grammar tell me that Marcus was enrolled there this week.

senator lundy on ross solly’s show this morning stated categorically that the rudds will be lodging here…

that said, i really don’t quite get the point of the import – the rest of gov’t is really required to get any gov’t business done, no world leaders simply ‘pop by’ canberra, so why does it matter where the PM is outside parl sitting?

My bad. Maxim is older and under him and bonkable.

And Maxine as his parliamentary secretary.

But personally I always thought that Kevin batted for the other team, what with his DFAT background and the hissy tiffs with Downer.

(Not that it matters either way)

Therese should be worried. Pinky Rudd has Gillard under him in his portfolio. She might be 46 but she is a red-head and bonkable. Watch for the lights on at the Lodge.

I would be disappointed if Kevin moved here. A PM should be with his people. Considering there are about 20 million Ausies and only 300k in Canberra (which is isolated and nowhere near as diverse a population compared to other cities), it doesn’t make sense to live at the lodge.

“The official policy of the Labor Party for a long time has been that for whoever the Prime Minister of the day is, the official residence is in Canberra, and when they visit Sydney they use Kirribilli,” he said.

“We have no intention to depart from that overall arrangement.”

Well mission accomplished then. And for those who don’t care about the symbolism (not to mention pride for many Canberrans), then be happy that it will save Joe Taxpayer lots of $$$$$$$.

Just wait for the 3 out of every 28 days when Gillard’s Deputy PMS kicks in.

God, Rudd has enough trouble keeping Garrett in-line: he doesn’t need his ‘bitch’ to start causing him further trouble.

Agreed with you there, Thumper. I couldn’t care whether or not the PM (with or without his family) lives in the Lodge, and I think Canberra media should get over it.

Rudd was pretty clear in his press conference this afternoon. He will live at the Lodge. I guess it is possible the family won’t be joining him on a permanent basis.

Maybe she’s just talking about her and the kids?

Maybe Terry is just worried about the prospect of having to live near Stanhope for the next few years.
I imagine the relationship between Kevin and Jon would be a bit similar to the one between Dubya and John Howard was…

How would it be ironic, exactly? Or were you using the Alanis Morrisette definition of irony? Perhaps you meant ‘hypocritical’, rather than ironic?

Kevin stated during the election campaign that he would base himself in Qld, so I would be surprised if the family moved down..

The article was from Wenesday, when she was in town.
The quotes were from Wednesday, when she was in town.
After the election.

This is unlikely, but not impossible: maybe the quote was from the day of the election, or before, thus the “if” was “if labor wins”.

*shrug*

Maybe the “if” refers to Therese and Marcus. Perhaps they are considering the option of the rest of the family remaining in Brisbane while Kevin moves here alone. (Wouldn’t be great for the marriage, but it could work).

Or perhaps Therese is in denial?

Maybe it was a non-Core promise?
