These people live amongst us!

I know how much people here like “bike” stories, so here’s another. I was driving through Cook the other day when I passed two people on what has to be the most amazing contraption I have ever seen. The rear half was a normal upright bike, the front half a recumbent bike. The ultimate “hipster tandem?” Just picture it, take the worse bits of both types of bikes, not that there’s anything good about recumbents, and weld them together. It must have been about 14 foot long. The female participant was on the front recumbent bit, the man, who was steering I suppose, at the rear. I didn’t manage to get a snap of them unfortunately, though I was laughing so hard I wouldn’t have been able to hold a camera steady in any case.

Anyone know the sort of contraption of which I speak?

These people vote you know.

All this talk of two person motor-less vehicles has reminded me of this: Ultimate Roller Muscle Legend.

Well that’s something which will live with me for quite some time.

I’ve often thought Canberra needs a couple of bar bikes.

They are not wearing helmets! Does the bar move as you drink? I mean, more than usual?

Fixing all those recurrent potholes would become even MORE important if we had a fleet of these, who wants to spill their drinks every couple of metres?! I propose we have cafe bikes also, a ride round the lake and a pastry sounds marvelous.

I hardly ever cycle – never to work and I can’t remember the last time I used my bike, but I would be all over that bike bar in a second! I can only imagine how hard getting off and walking would be after a few hours though!

Speaking of strange and unusual bikes, what ever happened to the Penny Farthing-esque bike that I used to see on the ANU campus frequently a couple of years ago?

I saw it last week being ridden past the ABC studios on Northbourne ave.

Yes, but were there wearing helmets?

And was there a bell?

Anyway, the lady lying down in front, vulnerable, the man above and in control. Perhaps it was a political comment in relation to last night’s Q&A?

The other day I saw someone using one of those encumbrance bicycles who managed to do something I had never ever before seen anyone do on one of those contraptions – he actually pulled away from me!
Lots of people on regular bikes overtake me, but I usually overtake every single encumbrance bike without even trying – all I could think was: “Wow, imagine how fast that guy could go on a regular bike!”

If anyone can post an image or a link to one of these “bikes” I’ll be indebted!

Yes, but were there wearing helmets?

Can this thread be about weird bikes? I have this to offer: http://i48.tinypic.com/1zbwgoj.jpg
