Thieving Government BBQs

Territory And Municipal Services are cross that their barbecues are going missing:

Territory and Municipal Services today urged the community to be alert and report any suspicious activity in our parks and urban open spaces.

This follows the theft of the entire double barbeque unit, including hot plates, the electronic system, batteries and gas bottles from popular recreation hub Murray’s Corner, located on Paddy’s River Road, over the weekend.

“It is incredibly disappointing that people continue to go out into our parks and urban open spaces maliciously destroying or stealing our recreation facilities,” Brett McNamara, Rural District Manager, said today.

Apparently they cost $20,000 to replace.

Would it perhaps be better to get folks to bring their own hibachis?

I’ve tried to cook on the TAMS bbqs around the ACT on a number of occasions, and most of them appear to have less heating power than a cigarette butt. You can spend hours trying to get the things to cook some onions and a few bangers.

Anybody who stole one of these things with the idea of installing it at home deserves the sad bbq frustration and misery that he is going to endure.

Haha, it’s funny coz it’s true.

If someone paid $20,000 for those pieces of crap they should be sacked immediately and be forced to cook on them every night.

Shite, my Hibachi from Japan isn’t cooking my fish! Where the hell did I go wrong??

Wikipedia (Hibachi) = a traditional Japanese heater.
Err….

Hibachi (Western terminology) = Shichirin = Japanese Webber for cooking food.

Ummm…
WTF??

Having spent well under that for our new kitchen, exactly what is it about these beasts that makes them worth so much to replace, and how does one get involved in supplying BBQs to ACT govco for 20k?

Normal price $10,000, government price $20,000…

Wow, that’s a bit rough that people are knocking off BBQs. But someone tried to knockoff our cat from our front yard the other day, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by anything.

I hope the two aren’t linked. Gives a whole new meaning to ‘Sooty’.

I’ve seen 4-burner BBQ’s at Bunnings for under $150. Seems like a lot less effort.

If you’ve nicked a public BBQ how can you use it? Shurely when you have visitors the coversation would go along the lines of;

Visitor: “Nice BBQ! Looks just like the ones in public parks. Must of cost a firtune, where did you get it?”

Host: “Um.. It was a gift…. Um, no.. I found it…. Um…”

Maybe at your place, but in this case I suspect it’d be more like:

Host: “Nicked it down at the park, hahahahahaha! Want another VB?”

Hahahah, stop!! Think a bit of wee came out. Fantastic 🙂 Thanks Random….

I think I have to stop reading RA. Hearing about the scum in the ACT every day, let alone the rest of the world is starting to get me down!
