Yeah i love living in fraser. Its nearly in the country but still part of the city, some people will tell you that being near charnwood is a bad thing, but any riff raff from that way never comes to fraser and the charnwood shops have good facilities. Easy access to hall and murrumbateman, you can get to belconnen mall in ten minutes by car. And the suburbs very clean and quite…….fraser I recommend it.

gee fraserfella you nearly have me sold,im thinking of renting first and then take it from there.thanks for your input.

Biggest downside to Fraser is its location. It is the most out of the way suburb in Belconnen, though some may consider that good. From the rest of Canberra (except Gungahlin) the only way to it is up Kingsford Smith drive and rat run through Flynn, or up past Charnwood shops and Tilyard Drive. From Gungahlin you have Kuringa Drive which is a shocking road, that is driven by some like it is Mt Panorama, with similar result, eg cars off the road.

School is meant to be ok, if thats what you want. Not sure if there is a supermarket at the shops anymore, but if not there is Charnwood shops down the road which are very good and smaller shops in Dunlop and Melba, plus the top shop halfway down Tilyard Drive.

Plus not many govie houses, well in the side east of Tilyard Drive anyway. Before I get attacked for trashing govie houses, I grew up in one and we looked after it, but sadly the sterotype is for the most part right.

Agree with the comment about not classifying a suburb. You need to consider a house and then suss out the neighbours, they will be the ones that make it or break it!

I agree with thatsnotme. Make sure that when you are scoping out a particular house or street visit at different times of day to see what the noise levels are like. Most suburbs in Canberra have their good and bad streets. But, depending on your point of view, what I classify as a good street may be a bad street to you.

I’ve never been there and have barely heard of it – so if you are buying, don’t pay as much as for one of the better-known suburbs like Macquarie would be my advice … in terms of resale value …

I live in Evatt which is two suburbs away, and I have never had an issue with the general area. It’s a nice quiet area of Belconnen as well as family friendly.

My thoughts are that it’s impossible to classify the quality of just about any Canberra suburb as a whole, without knowing exactly where you’re looking.

I live in (old) Macgregor, in the most awesome street full of quiet, respectful neighbours. Yet there are streets within a couple of hundred metres of my place that I’m glad I don’t live in. Suburbs like Hawker, just down the road, have parts with million dollar mansions, and other areas you’d avoid after dark.

I have a friend who lives in Fraser, and she’s never had any problems living there to my knowledge. On the other hand, I’ve got friends living in Charnwood and Kambah who can say exactly the same!

If you’re looking for a nice place closer to work, I’d suggest you don’t focus on one particular suburb, cast your net wide, and choose based on your immediate area and neighbours, rather than a whole suburb. One person’t view of the quality of a suburb could be completely different to another’s living in the next street. I just think that’s how Canberra works.
