A 20-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with two robberies and an attempt robbery from yesterday (Friday, 13 December).

Police will allege that a man entered the Pearce FoodWorks supermarket about midday, demanded cash while threatening staff by telling them he had a firearm. The staff member complied, handing over a sum of cash before the man fled the store.

About 5.10pm, the same man again entered the Pearce FoodWorks supermarket and demanded cash while threatening staff by telling them he had a firearm. He was handed an amount of cash and fled the store on foot.

About 7.25pm, police will allege the same man entered the 5 Star Handimarket in Spence and demanded cash while threatening staff by telling them he had a firearm. The staff member did not comply with the demands and chased the man from the store.

No firearm was sighted in any of the three incidents.

A short time later a member of the public contacted police stating they had seen a male hiding in a nearby street.

The man was located shortly after by police in the rear yard of a home in Spence. He was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with two counts of robbery, one of attempt robbery, common assault and resisting an officer.

Police will be opposing bail.

Wow all that just for $240. What a dumbarse to go back to the same store again on the same day even wearing the same distinctive t-shirt. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

$340, and it wasnt the return to that store that got him caught. That may have been the smartest part of his plan that day. No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition.

It’s so bizarre as to be suspicious. Stoned or even delusional perhaps? Why only ask for a specific amount rather than the contents of the till?

If they were smart they’d be running super funds.

Ah Canberra Raiders. Where would be without them?

John Papalli was released by the Raiders in 2012.

You might as well ask where we’d be without Matt Henjak.
