Ainslie is well known for many things: its thriving local shopping centre with Edgar’s pub, busy restaurants, and a family-owned supermarket. Community ties are strong with two primary schools and a local football club. The environment is influenced by the ‘garden city movement’ with parks and gardens integrated into the suburb’s plan.

One of the most unique features of Ainslie is its position between the city and the bush. Understandably, many people know it as a coveted place to live. Not only does it have large established suburban blocks, tree-lined streets and garden city ideals, it is also positioned – actually, nestled – at the base of Mt Ainslie with reserve and bush as its backdrop.

Ainslie’s enviable position offers an active and varied lifestyle thanks to its connectedness to nature and its closeness to Canberra’s vibrant, cosmopolitan attractions.

Duffy Street backs onto Mt Ainslie Nature Reserve and is the suburb’s most privileged position. The homes are varied and diverse.

It’s been suggested that the street represents an architectural timeline of Canberra: early Canberra-redbrick homes, prefab working-class cottages, a sprinkling of Tocumwal houses (relocated from Tocumwal in the 1940s), 1960’s government dwellings, and the more recent knockdown architectural rebuilds.

This interesting and beautiful street-landscape adds to the eclectic fabric of the lives of Ainslie residents.

One thing that the Duffy Street homes situated on the reserve side of the street have in common is the beautiful bush over their back fences. Running the parallel fire trail, are countless fence gates with direct access to this bush wonderland.

Ainslie residents share their love for this nature reserve in many ways. It is a playground for children and adults alike: flora and fauna to be discovered, trails for running, walking and horse riding, a sanctuary for peace and serenity.

It is no mistake that Canberra continues to be ranked highly as one of the most liveable cities in the world. Our connection to the bush and a love of the good things in life are second to none. Ainslie residents know this truth all too well.
