This in from the AFP:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to three separate south-side incidents that police believe are related and which occurred overnight.

Around 11pm last night (Monday December 6), two brothers, aged 21 and 20 respectively, were at the Weston Creek skate park when they were approached by five males. The males drove into the carpark in a dark coloured sedan, a dark coloured Holden ute and a third vehicle. One of the offenders produced a weapon and assaulted the 21-year-old man by striking him on the side of his neck. The victim’s car was also broken into and property stolen. The man is currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Around 1am this morning (Tuesday December 7), two 17-year-old males were assaulted as they sat on the footbridge over Erindale Drive in Erindale. Up to five males approached the victims and began a conversation with them before two of the offenders produced a metal pole and a weapon, striking both victims. The offenders fled with the victims’ wallets and a mobile phone. Both victims required medical attention however have since been discharged from hospital.

Around 2am an 18-year-old female and her 18-year-old boyfriend had just arrived at the Red Hill Lookout when two vehicles tried to box them in. Several males got out of one of the vehicles, a dark coloured Holden Commodore, and began to approach the victims. The 18-year-old male driver was able to accelerate away however was followed from Red Hill to Woden where the couple reported the matter to the Woden Police Station. The other vehicle involved was a maroon coloured hatchback.

Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen a silver Mitsubishi Magna being followed by either a dark coloured Holden Commodore or maroon coloured hatchback on Hopetoun Circuit, Adelaide Avenue, Yarra Glen, Melrose Drive or Launceston Street in Phillip in the early hours of this morning to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

These incidents appear to be random and unprovoked and police believe all three are related. Descriptions of the offenders are Caucasian, aged in their early 20’s and wearing tradesmen-like clothing.

Police would urge anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents or may be able to assist police with their investigations to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

And while I’m here…the Thuggees were Indian folks who went about robbing and killing travellers (often via strangulation) for criminal/religious reasons.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuggee has the full scoop, as much as Wikipedia can be trusted.

The word seems to fit these cocks, both in its original and current interpretations. I hope they consume a whole bunch of cheap bourbon and cokes, and then crash their Commodore into a tree, dying horribly in the ensuing flames.

This story is actually quite scary. I hope they catch these idiots and lock them away (here’s wishful thinking…)

I would love to see an area of central Australia surrounded by a lethal barb wire fence, say 10 sq km. Thugs like these and other detritus who commit unprovoked violent crimes would be sentenced to a suitable period in the ‘ring’. No rules. Just a chopper flight once a day throwing some food out for the inmates to sort out who gets what. No supervision, the inmates get the same leniency they showed their victims, some survive some don’t. On the allocated day of release, if the inmate whose turn it is can make it to a gate, they are let out, if they miss the appointment, bad luck try next month.

Oh, and I’d put car keyers in there as well.

Oh, how you long for the day when scum like this pick on the wrong group of people and cop a well deserved arse kicking. Never seems to happen though.

You just never hear about it.

I suppose they’re unlikely to rock up at the police station and report that the people they were trying to rob bashed them.

If this were America they’d be able to sue, though.

If this were America they’d be dead. A LOT of people have concealed carry permits over there. Even more carry firearms with them in their cars.

Troll-sniffer, I would like to bear your children! I’m a guy, and I still feel that way! These vermin don’t deserve the benefits of being a part of our society. Putting them in the middle of the desert with their like-minded colleagues is the natural solution.

Regarding the gun thing, I think it’d be great to be able to pull out a Roscoe and smoke these f*ckers after they’ve boxed you in at the car park. But reality intrudes. The American experience shows that having weapons freely available to all and sundry just causes the villains to bomb up as well, resulting in an arms race.

Furthermore, despite all movie bullshit, handguns are bloody cumbersome and uncomfortable things to carry, and astoundingly difficult things to shoot accurately. I have some familiarity with this topic, and I’m pretty sure that without extensive training, you’re more likely to shoot yourself, or a stranger or a loved one rather than one of the Ungodly.

Nice thought though. Perhaps there should be extensive training available to those who want to carry, and risk the consequences.

“These incidents appear to be random and unprovoked and police believe all three are related. Descriptions of the offenders are Caucasian, aged in their early 20’s and wearing tradesmen-like clothing.”

Hmmm. There are a lot of tradies from interstate working here at the moment. Not saying anything but….

Thuggees, eh. What’s next, dacoits? Probably.

I know it can be hard to think of (and it doesn’t always help anyway) under stressful conditions such as being bashed by offensive weapons but surely by now somebody has clocked the rego plates of the cars involved?

That would explain all the cops in attendance at TCH on Monday night (I was there with my 6yo son from 1pm til we got a bed at 4pm). I saw two young men with nasty head injuries in triage and then a third in a bed in the actual Emergency ward. In my very tired state, I was at a loss to work out what had happened. So now I know, thanks.

Nasty pieces these offenders are … I hope they catch them, give them a taste of their own medicine, lock them up and throw away the key.

But the gates only open for 30 seconds, and it’s as big as a cat.

I’m undecided on the car keyers side of it… Some drivers deserve it.

Isnt a metal pole, in this situation, a weapon? Whats more weapon than a weapon? A gun or knife? WTF

So JB when you say “Thuggees” are you implying that they are thugs from Tuggies? Just wondering cause only one out of the three incidents was actually in Tuggeranong.

Having said that, it’s a pretty bad situation. I hope the people responsible get caught. If they are all related like the police think they are they are getting pretty serious and will probably strike again, because they believe they got away with it three times.

Yup, Thuggees for sure. They only shat in their backyard the once.

I hope they catch those bastards. I hope they take them to court, that they’re found guilty, and given a stern rebuke by the judge. A very stern rebuke.
