Worrying about stuff like potholes and blocked drains is what makes us a first-world city. And ignoring potholes and blocked drains is the first step in ceasing to be one.

Elsewhere we are being trained to ignore them or even move them out of the way.
i.e. the McCulloch St underpass on the edge of Curtin (that floods when the clouds sneeze)

Morsehead Drive cycle path near Duntroon has further collapsed today due to the wet weather.

Cyclists and pedestrians are not to use the area and to respect the barriers that are in place

Maybe it’ll be fixed properly now and not left like it was.

Braddon. Torrens St into Cooyong St.

A significant puddle of water has formed on the corner there such that driving a vehicle through it could be hazardous, unless you have a 4WD.

It’s probably due to the backlog of water currently affecting the inner north suburbs and Northbourne Ave.

In other news, Mt Stromlo, the farmers markets, and sunday sculptures are all closed.

It says within an hour, that could mean 1pm, it could also mean 12.20pm.

From the Qbn Council: (it’s rather amusing, they actually remove the guardrails from the low-level crossing on Morrisett st, near the Fast Food St, and they actually remove the entire cafe from the riverside!).

Latest info from the SES

·

River currently at 4.1 metres and rising.

·

Low level bridge on Morisset St closed to cars and pedestrians. Hand rails have been removed.

·

Traffic heavy on Monaro St and adjoining streets

·

SES are predicting a minor flood of at least 4.2 metres. At this level, the river will remain within it’s banks and no property will be threatened. Rain will ease until about mid day, when another 40 to 80 mm is expected in the catchment. Rain to continue till Friday.

·

River café has not been removed as yet.

Please direct any calls for more information or interviews to Queanbeyan SES

My understanding is that the Guardrails are reoved to stop debris building up against them like last time as it apparently caused a bit of damage during the last big flood and there was a concern that the weight of the water and debris could cause the bridge to be torn away.

The Cafe was designed to be winched out in a flood, I want to see it done becuase it sounds really cool.

Why is 1PM the magic number?

Wow, the things you learn because of rain.

Canberra Avenue is closing at 1pm!

“the wet weather has deteriorated existing road works.”

I don’t think I’ve ever seen deteriorate used as a transitive verb before.
Wondering if this is an innovation, the product of a maleducated PR-monkey, or something else, I discover in the Oxford English Dictionary that the transitive verb came first:

1784 W. Cowper Let. 10 Feb. (1981) II. 213 A long line of grandsires, who from generation to generation have been employed in deteriorating the breed.

1813 Duke of Wellington Dispatches (1838) X. 380 Maintained by means?which will deteriorate the discipline of the troops.

1847 C. G. Addison Treat. Law Contracts (1883) ii. iii. §2 603 To deteriorate the value of the property.

1879 M. Arnold G. Sand in Mixed Ess. 343 Equality, as its reign proceeded, had not deteriorated but improved them.

Queanbeyan low level bridge at Morrisett St is closed. We were one of the last cars to get across before the police closed it off this morning. The water was already over half the road.
