Don’t believe Tiger will give you a $19 fare to Melbourne.

Virgin currently have a $18 fare to Melbourne, however the taxes are $41 making a total fare of $59.

vadar, if you read further down in the article it says that Tiger announced it would base its operations in Melbourne but was still negotiating with other airports about potential routes- Canberra Airport hoping t0 host them.

From the Canberra Times article:
Mr Byron said the airline was considering one flight each way per day, six days a week, from Canberra to Melbourne.

“It’s very much a commercially attractive proposition for them because the leisure market around Canberra is under served and there is certainly a shortage of seats for $19,” he said.

Quoth the Swami:
Damn, I won’t pay $19 to stand all the way to Melbourne…

Everyone knows that with these discounts that the tax makes up the bulk of the fare.

Still pretty cheap though.

I laughed when I read the first paragraph of the article, “if Canberra Airport is successful in its bid to host the Singapore-based Tiger Airways.”

This a day AFTER they had already announced that Melbourne was going to be their home base in Australia.

… and if the traffic gets much worse, the taxi ride will take longer, too.

What I love is the taxi fare to the airport costing more than the flight.

I think some thought needs to be given to the viability of their business model. If people are consistently paying very low fares, things like maintenance inevitably get cut. Service is non existant.

But what do I care? I do all my domestic flying using frequent flyer points anyway.
