Canberra CBD are letting it be known that the public can peer at Tim Ferguson peering at a memorial to himself tomorrow at the intersection of City Walk and Petrie Plaza:

The plaque sits within the Civic Memory Quilt at the intersection of Petrie Plaza and City Walk, where the Doug Anthony All Stars regularly busked in the late 1980’s.

Canberra CBD Limited CEO Stephen Gregory is pleased to see Tim Ferguson acknowledging the plaque. It is good to also see Tim getting in just ahead of the centenary year celebrations.

“The Doug Anthony All Stars are an iconic part of Canberra’s history, so it’s fitting that their contribution to Canberra is commemorated in the civic memory quilt.

“Public art plays an important role in the Canberra CBD and it is great to have a notable Canberra native like Tim Ferguson endorse this, even if it is somewhat overdue,” Mr Gregory said.

The plaque will be commemorated by Tim in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the site tomorrow (Wednesday 19 September) at 3pm.

Founding member of the Doug Anthony All Stars Tim Ferguson said, “It’s embarrassing. We forgot about our own memorial! I blame Richard and Paul.”

Ferguson is also in town promoting his award-winning live theatre show, “Carry a Big Stick”, on 19 October at the Canberra Theatre.

For the confused the Civic Memory Quilt is this thing:

And let’s take the chance to remember when all the world was young:

Canberra native? A friend of mine back in the day claimed to have gone to school with him in Bathurst.

Brilliant show they used to put on in Garema though. Maybe Bathurst is to Canberra as New Zealand is to Australia; when they produce a good’un, we’ll claim them.

Well just ask Robyn “Gormless, Talentless & Illiterate” Archer. I guess if someone who visited Canberra for five minutes is “Canberra diaspora”, then someone born in Victoria could well be a “Canberra Native”.

Despite the fact he is born in NSW.

By comparison, there are gigs from the same era that I paid lots of money to attend that I have no recollection of whatsoever.

Possibly because you were dead drunk afterwards? 😉

Ahh….yes….on at least one occasion. 🙂

I saw these guys busking many times back in the ’80’s and they were truly brilliant. I can actually remember several individual performances quite clearly, and that was 30 years ago. Definately a Narrabundah College student at the very least.

DAAS are an unwanted reminder of my pretentious Uni days.

It’s Canberra – we’re usually all from somewhere else originally.

For the record – he lists Blayney, New South Wales as the hometown.
