I find his wording interesting, as it implies that there is some specific danger that having permission would avoid?

Probably the fact the owner knows you’re there. It wouldn’t save you from death, but it would help someone find your body.

Tim just sent through a message which he asked for me to post on his behalf.

“I can’t access riotact here at work but I understand people are asking if I had permission. I did get permission and also want it known that it is illegal and dangerous to visit without permission.”

I guess that clears it up.

I thought he probably did, I was just curious. I find his wording interesting, as it implies that there is some specific danger that having permission would avoid?

Many years ago when it was open there was a fee to enter the falls area, as well as a little kiosk.

Never seen Tim before, he sure has a head for radio 🙂

just do eeeet. Canberra residents have been asking this for years.

As far back as 1931 there were calls for the falls to be opened to the public. It was deemed too costly at the time.

Your poll options are not mutually exclusive. I believe that private property should be respected, but I also believe that it should be opened to the public – it should be possible to come to some arrangement that satisfies both.

on behalf of David Stratton, I thought the hand held camera diminished the majesty of the footage

Considering the issues that accompany allowing the public access to private land, I think that the owners should charge admission if they felt like it. Public opinion shouldn’t override the right of an owner to keep their property free of garbage, idiots and other resulting inconviences.

+1

Obviously the most sensible and beneficial arrangement for all parties.

Did he find something out there that doesn’t exist?

Some will recall that Ginninderra Falls was open to the paying public in the early ’80’s when Rob and Liz Calwell lived at Parkwood and leased the Falls area from … um … (Cam’s dad was the property Manager then, and one of the Kilby’s lived at Parkwood too)… and then from Lee Freedman’s family.

Something like 4km of stone-bordered walking trails from the ‘Pulpit’ all the way to the Murrumbidgee via the Bunyip Hole (I think that’s what it was called) and back via the southern boundary.

Canoe hire at the Murrumbidgee was very popular; as was some odd bloke who’d turn up in his VW (?) and prance about in just his togs on the way to swimming under the Falls – to the surprise of the many who’d plonked there picnic blanky’s along the trail.

Penny and Jerry Olsen used to visit from time-to-time to check on progress of the Peregrine Falcon eerie located on the cliff face opposite the ‘park’ entrance.

Open it I say – or at least allow walkers to pass through unhindered – on their way to Surveyor’s Hill perhaps.

I am curious as to weather he had the permission of the landholder to visit it?

I think you only need permission to cross his land to access the falls. You can of course just walk up the river instead.

I doubt that would have been easy this weekend just passed.

Be curious no more. Yes he did. Nice pun on the weather too….it was a pun wasn’t it?

Ummm, yes, an intentional pun. Totally. 🙂

Give the owner a good price and every one would be happy. I mean the owner could run the place like a business if they wanted to you cant do much for the land in that spot.
