Titans down Raiders

The Canberra Raiders went down to the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday night.

Whilst some ordinary decisions cost the Raiders dearly, they were still outclassed by a confident looking Titans outfit. Despite an excellent completion rate early on, the Raiders nonexistent 5th tackle options meant that the completion statistic amounted to nothing.

Yet another player was added to an extensive injured Raider list, with Hinchcliffe expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a broken thumb. Michael Weyman was sent off for punching his opposite number. The incident was handled poorly by the ref who incorrectly deduced that it was unprovoked, and also classified it as a king hit. Weyman almost certainly should have enjoyed 10 minutes on the sideline, though for mine a send off was unnecessary. In any event, Weyman is likely to sit out for however long the judiciary decides is appropriate for the incident.

The Raiders will be at home again this coming Sunday against the Tigers. Kickoff at 2pm.

I strongly recommend you pre-purchase your tickets and arrive early to ensure you are seated for kickoff, and to avoid lining up for half an hour.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say every aspect of their game was terrible. Their defence was impressive at times, and everything they did up to the 5th tackle was great. Campo and Carney aren’t working as a halves combination if you ask me – and the lack of 5th tackle options is exposing this.

I’d forgotten about Monas coming up limping. Bloody hell.

Why does Weyman always end up in a fight? It’s not worth it and it just lets the side down.

The Raiders were terrible on Saturday night.

It looks like Monaghan might be injured as well. He is having scans on his knee.

Weyman’s conduct was appalling. He has a history of fighting on-field, so I suspect a lengthy sentence.
