To the informant amongst us...

‘Frank’ recently had a bit of a rant on Riotact concerning surly customers at a parking station. All in all it was a fairly innocuous thread until I read a comment from Gorilla:

Wow didnt actually think someone would actually send this into Frank’s workplace as a complaint. Such a low act to dob someone in who was obviously venting their anger. He lost his job cause someone who saw this actually had the nerves to send it in as a complaint. That person is probably one of the customers who refuse and complain about paying $2 for parking.

As a former employee of the carpark I definately know how infuriating it is to deal with someone refusing to pay $1 for their parking(which is what it used to be when I was working their). Seriously how cheap and stingy are some people? A condition of entry into the carpark clearly state that if you enter and use the facility you are obliged to follow their rules as it is privately owned. If you can’t accept that go park outside of the centre in the government spots then when you pass your ticketed time you can have a nice yellow envelope on your front screen if your so lucky.

Anyway the person that forwarded this subject onto the Centre Management lowest of low you are.

I would just like to say that what Frank said was ultimately harmless, possibly offensive if you’re that way inclined, but harmless. What you did was not harmless.

‘Frank’ was stupid enough to give details about his situation to strangers on a forum, thinking that people would respect the anonymity of the forum. Evidently not. To take offence at a petty slight and inform on a person, leading to major negative consequences for that person, is contemptible in my book. It undermines this forum, it undermines the internet, and it undermines democratic society and the freedom of speech.

Police states love people like you.

He *clearly* didnt get 3 warnings

I bet his contract had a instant dismissal clause in cases where the good name of the company that he worked for is besmirched.

Frank/Gorilla/00Daniel00, do you have any response?

Will you be answering separately or will you have a group reply?

Or will a fourth emerge to defend the other three?

We are all forgetting about the POWER OF THE INTERNET….

Clearly, this fellows employer (being a small business owner) uses scummy tactics, and fires his staff for simply having a little whine…

He *clearly* didnt get 3 warnings

There was *no* democratic public service process followed….

Lets all choose not to use the facilities……

Yup – That’s gona do it!!!

I don’t know why anyone would go to such lengths to get back at a guy having a rant on the internet.

He didn’t do anything wrong.

He was hardly offensive.

If there was a dobber, you are truly a scumbag and I hope you get what you deserve.

Hmm I think Frank, Gorilla and 00Daniel00 are the same people…

“it undermines the internet” … lolz

It’s okay, why don’t you just type “google” into google and then you can bring the entire internet empire to a deserving death, mmwwaahahahahaahah!!!

Is there any real proof that Frank was indeed fired? Or maybe the whole thread might have been created by a friend of Franks, not Frank of course, there was to much sense written in this post.

Go ask the centre management if you can speak to “Frank” see if his their then? He was “fired” as he was fulltime casual employee.

Yeh to possibly canberran’s, the new centre management from melbourne may not know it that well. So yeah i’ve jumped to the conclusion someone from here sent it in fair enough don’t you think?

I only made this account to have a go at the “dog” that would send in a complaint about a harmless rant. I didn’t make it to spin some BS or make smart arse comments like a lot of people here do who hide behind their computer screens and in real life probably wouldn’t make any such comments. Last post thanks bye

Yeah, the Liberal Party seem to be better at using this site to promote their views.

INdeed, well known enough for a Chief MInister’s adviser to have recommended strategies for placing spin upon Riot Act as a prime plank of their efforts … and talked about it at PR practitioner conferences … doesn’t look as though they got anywhere thank goodness!

This is a reasonably well known website in Canberra…

I’m still hanging on the comment “undermines the Internet”, crack up.

I mean the Internet is just wholesome place for all to play without worry………

Live and die by the sword……………

Secondly, no manager will sack an employee on a complaint. They will be spoken to and given a warning (3 times is the norm).

This is complete crap. The whole world isn’t the public service, and as a small business owner I can and have fired employees on the spot for bad behaviour or poor performance.

When you have worked your ass off to build an image for a business and someone with little actual responsibility goes and makes a fool of you online, you’re quite within your rights to cut them loose, thank god. I’d be mortified if it were my staff member insulting my customers online.

Hmm I’m thinking that like any good new article on ACA or Today Tonight, there might be more to it than one little internet Post.

I mean it’s not like Frank was bagging out his company, colleagues or work place, he was standing up for what he believed was a mis justice towards those things, most employees would at least attempt to applaud his behavior.

I think you might find that Frank was indeed a Twat with a low tolerance, short fuse and probably shit at his job as well.

Is there any real proof that Frank was indeed fired? Or maybe the whole thread might have been created by a friend of Franks, not Frank of course, there was to much sense written in this post.

I hope Frank finds a better job soon.

Can’t. Type. Proper. Laughing. Too. Hard.

Ahhhh the downfall of the internet tough guy. Gotta love it.

Postalgeek, you are to be applauded for sounding off about a low-life dobber-in.

And there are plenty of vacancies for brain surgeons and rocket scientists…

I’m glad you’ve reassured us on that front! I did believe your retraction though! Cheers

How do we know it was someone who reported his little rant? Couldn’t it be possible that the owners or managers of the business found their own way to RiotACT? As far as the outcome is concerned, I would imagine that if “Frank’s” post was indeed “harmless” then he probably wouldn’t have lost his job.

In reality though I doubt his dismissal had much to do with the rant here on RA – it’s more likely that he was sacked for being a twat.

bingo!

and then goes on to talk about freedom of speech!

classic.

“undermines the internet!”

Love it.

Yeah. In a second draft I might’ve stopped at ‘this forum’. Put it down to a stroppy mood and a mid strength beer the night before.

Kinda reminds me of the statement Jen made here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrQUWUfmR_I

This seems the most likely outcome to me. Perhaps the original post was the final nail in the coffin?

I heard it was a cyclist.

Maybe they did him a good turn, one door closes and another opens, he wasn’t happy with his job anyway, good luck for the furture Frank.

I have to say I’m not surprised if somebody did go out of their way to make a complaint.

The ‘RiotACT’ is full of dibber-dobbers and busy bodies. What better way to pass your time than to make everything your business, take things further than they should be taken and make attention-grabbing tasteless puns.

Speaking for myself, I may stereotype certain sections of the community, but I never attack those that can’t stand up for themselves. You wont see me posting things like “hang that wack-job lezzo” either.

All I am saying is have a little compassion. Don’t be an arse-hole all your life.

Pot, this is kettle…….over

Often dob negative comments about places reviewed/services etc that appear on RA to whom it may concern. Right of reply and all that.

So your saying someone got sacked because of comments on a public forum like this?

If he was stupid enough to admit that he did it then that’s his problem. Here’s a lesson for you, you put it on a public internet forum it will not stay private.

“and it undermines democratic society and the freedom of speech.”

Bollocks, this is free speech at work. It doesn’t always have positive outcomes
