Todd Carney has been caught up in yet another scandal. This time a photo was posted overnight that showed the troubled Cronulla star urinating in his own mouth.

Reports are circulating that the Cronulla board have just acted to the news which has been sweeping social media all morning. Carney has been reportedly sacked.

A search on RiotACT using the phrase ‘Todd Carney‘ brings up a list of his indiscretions over the years.

UPDATE – 5.33pm
A statement has been issued by the Cronulla Sharks CEO Steve Noyce confirming that Todd Carney’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

His new sponsor is Fountain.
He is the Golden Boy on and off the field.

[Carney is a serial idiot so as long as he doesn’t hurt anyone what’s wrong with him playing footy for the Raiders again? We know what to expect and we can always blame Tony Abbott.

The Raiders would never have him back because he pissed them off years ago!

Re Peter Greste, I was more interested in what the EU is doing to free him but then again, why would anyone want to have “dual citizenship” anyhow?

Some of us were born overseas so possessing dual citizenship is perfectly reasonable.

I wonder if Peter played rugby league when he was growing up?

and that would alter your perspective on these two matters how..? your innate presumptions have you flushed out by the queen.

while i have zero interest in league, i can’t help but hearing commentary on local radio; so my perspective is from this, really – but while this ‘bubbler’ (i am a male of some vintage but had not heard that term, either, your majesty) is on the disgusting side, i don’t see why it should preclude a chap from pursuing his profession in a sporting domain [nor, probably, most other domains] and in quite a few cultures, drinking one’s own urine is a common occurrence.

also, it appears this image was circulated by person/s other than mr carney and he didn’t give, i understand, any licence for its publication, so i suspect he’d have a right fair chance at unfair dismissal if he chose that option. the move by his club does seem rather swift and his consultation by them rather underwhelming…

anyway, that aside, his particular talents in his profession or otherwise – i have no capacity to make judgement – should play no part in the decision to terminate his contract or have any other club granted leave to sign him for their service. just some wee comments from me…

Good Lord, dungfungus – so Todd Carney deserves a fourth go at $700k a year for this time pissing on his own head instead of a fellow patron’s. Yet according to you, Peter Greste is a bad person for having dual citizenship with Latvia?

I’m happy to say I had never heard of “the bubbler” before this weekend. And remain completely surprised that you’ve not only attempted it, you regard it as a normal part of growing up.

Well, with the name like you have I would not have expected you to have played rugby league so I understand you could be ignorant of what really goes on.

Wow, god forbid we should expect anyone to refrain from p*ssing in their own mouth for a laugh while out in public. What a bunch of prudes we have become!

I can’t wait for Todd’s canonisation ceremony.

Carney back at Canberra would make sense. There has been a lot of faux moral panic because he is a rugby league player doing what rugby league players do. I think at some level society knows that the standards of behaviour of RL players on the drink is not equivalent to tea at Buckingham Palace.
But in the age of social media, somehow the Todd Carneys of this world are being held to a higher standard. I mean, really, does anyone imagine that rugby league players celebrate with tea and scones..

Society in the age of the instant upload is imposing a double standard. At one level society lauds Todd for being an aggressive risk taker on the field. But off the field, he is expected to mind instantly transform so that he minds his Ps and Qs. Before everything private became public, the players were only expected to mind their Ps and Qs for a window of time around the game. Then the curtain descended and they could get back to the aggressive risk taking behaviour that made them into great players.

I really don’t think Todd’s latest antics would be that shocking by the standards of RL players over the years. Since I don’t get my opinions from the kneejerk hypocrites in the MSM, I say let’s get the boy back to Canberra (but for the love of God keep him out of public view when he’s not playing).

I have already posted similar comments.
Carney’s mistake was that he was caught on camera.
I’ll bet he is not the first NRL player to attempt “the bubbler”. When I played schoolboy football it was a typical stunt to try this. It only became offensive when one was forced to drink from someone elses’ “bubbler”.
I had the misfortune to stay at a hotel in Honolulu in the 1970’s at the same time as a Sydney first grade football team on their “end of season trip”. It was hell. The favourite stunt was for them to hurl pool furniture into the pool from the top of the hotel in the wee hours of the morning. There were some famous faces amongst that lot. Fortunately, I didn’t get to share the flight back to Sydney with them.
There were reports of their antics in the Honolulu media but nothing in the Australian press.
The one thing that would deny Carney returning to the Raiders is that he is not old enough yet. Being under 30 and in top form is not what the Raiders selectors seem to choose.
The Raiders are now sharing last place on the NRL ladder with Cronulla. I can’t see the Raiders surviving in the NRL much longer.

I find the act of a Queensland NRL player defecating in the hallway of a hotel far more repugnant that what Todd Carney has done yet that player hardly got a slap on the wrist and he contiues to play.
In fact, if I was Carney I would be taking legal action against the person who took the photo and disseminated it on social media. I think that is called invasion of privacy.

The difference is that Carney is a repeat offender with a string of offences and he has been warned twice by the club. This latest incident is the straw that broke the camel’s back and as far as i’m aware, fortunately, there wasn’t a photo of ***** defecating in the hotel corridor circulating on social media

If there was a photo it would be actually be a motion one.

Well the word “bubbling” has entered my word-stock of “rude” words.

I really think The Raiders should try and get him back while he is at his peak. He was great in halves before and he can be better if he is given the chance. At least he runs with the ball and scores tries.
When all the knee-jerk “shock/horror” of what he has done is analysed does it really matter?
Was anyone injured, did he destroy any property, did he abuse anyone, has he committed a criminal act this time? No.
In fact, his off-field behaviour is something we have become accustomed to expecting (and accepting until next time).

Silly move by the club he should have been forced to under go physiological treatment and then be able to return and have contrition , cutting him astray is a loss for the club and a semi win for Todd and another club, he wont learn!

having now been sacked from the raiders, Roosters and the Sharks, I don’t think too many clubs would be willing to sign him up. The NRL should just issue a life ban for his consistent arsehattery.

I think he has arrested development (difficult childhood?) and hasn’t grown much beyond about the age of a stroppy 8 year old.

Imagine losing 700,000 a year salary over something as stupid as this.

Silly move by the club he should have been forced to under go physiological treatment and then be able to return and have contrition , cutting him astray is a loss for the club and a semi win for Todd and another club, he wont learn!

An interesting set of double standards by the media on this one. When the Monaghan “bestiality” pic came out, most of the media published a censored version. The only place I have seen the Carney pic is on last night’s Nine News. Today’s Daily Telegraph has even stated that they will not publish the pic in any form either in print or on the website. I would have thought the Monaghan pic was far worse than the Carney pic.

I’ve been drunk on many occasions, really drunk such that I couldn’t walk and just threw up lying in a garden bed. But at no stage would I ever think this would be a good idea, same for dog licking photo on Monaghans and any of these other photos people seem to take.

If Carney ever invites you out for a night on the p%ss. Do not accept.

I never thought I would link to this YouTube footage in a serious, adult conversation. And yet, here we are. I think it highlights some interesting (but not unexpected) parallels between NRL players and primates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs-hxI_wLSI

A disclaimer first. I don’t know Todd Carney, I’m not a shrink and I don’t give the patootie of a rat about rugby league.
There’s no question that some of his reported indiscretions have been examples of what no adult, or well-behaved child, should ever do. No sane and sober person would want to be in the same postcode as Todd Carney in full cry.
But, I have to ask, why does he do this stuff? I have previously held to an “entitled child” theory – he has been a remarkably talented rugby league player from a young age, paid amounts beyond the dreams of most people, so he’s never been told that he should not do anything he wants to do. It’s an easy pop-psych answer.
This latest event has made me question that characterisation and come up with something a touch more disturbing. When he unleashes the inner ratbag, one of two things happen. Either he’s forgiven (“that’s just the way Todd is”, “you have to accept the Hyde with the Jekyll” etc) and gets the warmth of being loved despite himself or he gets the equivalent of a public beating and humiliation. Getting sacked from one NRL team seems hard (unless it’s the Raiders and the player is manoeuvring to be sacked so he can got to the Roosters or the Sharks) but getting sacked from three suggests that that kind of rejection is what he’s looking for at some level.
In other words, he wants to be punished, and frankly, that’s not a sign of a really healthy mind. Get him to one of the funny doctors, please, someone. Just in case.

I wonder how long before this act is renamed “the carny” and replicated at the moose by like minded dunderheads.

Seriously, how can he ever walk into an Australian pub ever again?
