Regular readers will be thrilled by an ABC story reporting that perennial favourite Todd Carney has signed to play for the Atherton Roosters in the Queensland competition.

I also hear the gig involves a job working in the pub.

UPDATED: Todd is nothing if not reliable. LeagueHQ notes that Todd’s signing with Atherton followed his being handcuffed by eight police officers in Goulburn after jumping up and down on the roof of a car outside the Carlton Hotel.

At the pub last night here in Cairns and a mate asked me “what do I know about this Carney bloke”. The initial response went along the lines of where do i start.

Mr Evil said :

I reckon Carney should be checking out Manly, as they seem to have a good drinkin’ culture, and a young bloke like Carney’d fit right in with them!

… and it looks like they now have a vacancy…

Just heard on the radio this morning that Carney has been banned form Goulburn for 12 months. Haha!

Well FNQ has survived Cyclone Hamish – but they won’t know what hit them when Cyclone Todd comes to town!

While there is no doubting Todd is an idiot, his manager should be looking out for him and, for that matter, so should Todd’s family. Are they counseling him at all over any of this? Escorting him on his nights out? FFS, where are their objections to his living and working in a Pub?

The person arrested with him was probably his dad.

I don’t know that it would be a great idea to entrust a wheelbarrow of bricks to Todd Carney … are you sure we really want to do that?

Oh, what the heck! I’m always up for a bit of an experiment!

I can hear the toenails scrabbling on the wood…

Oh for the 80s, when our sports people still had to pretend to have real jobs and earn real livings. and some of them really were glassies at the QLC and they really did push wheelbarrows of bricks in Bung.

*scurries away*

last warning on language G-Fresh.

You whining twats wouldn’t ever be able to handle the scrutiny this bloke and other sports players are put under. Regardless of your occupation haha

exactly…..the manager is probably trying his best however if Carney doesn’t want to change or fix anything…nothing anyone else can do. It’s all up to CArney

I think that, if you mention the police here, you have to insert a fawningly positive comment straight after, or certain police-persons think you’re having a go at them. (insert fawningly positive comment hastily).

As for Carney’s manager, well, he’s not in a position of authority over Carney, he’s an employee of Carney. It would be very difficult for him/her to make Carney do anything. Just giving him some sound advice would be risky, if it wasn’t something Carney wished to hear.

God you people are so cruel. The poor thing is clearly battling to get over the toxic media commentary he has been copping. Is it his fault that he wasn’t born 20 years earlier when he was just another good bloke having a bit of harmless fun? Perhaps he’s caught in a Life on Mars plot, but in reverse?

So when he’s only getting wasted to help himself “forget his past”, let’s just let him get on with it hey? What’s a few trashed cars and stuff, when he’s investing time, money and reputation so heavily in getting his forgetfulness cranked up?

[sarcasm off] Sheesh – why would any team employ this stupid pratt???

ALERT ALERT

HUMOUR MODULE DISENGAGED

PLEASE RE-ENGAGE HUMOUR MODULE

BZZZT!

Humour module engaged, antagonism levels decreasing….

WTF???

Is he sponsored by the Police Union to generate overtime for their members or something?

Huh? Stupid comment alert…. (AGREE)

Um, why? Its fair to say that Carney has occupied more police time than most other people…

Do you really think it’s fair to say that he has occupied alot of Police time?

I think not. Carney is an idiot and a comment like that has you close to the same basket.

I’m not arguing Sunshine. What I’m saying is that Todd has proven himself to be an idiot who, through immaturity, lack if intelligence or just being plain stupid simply can’t look after himself. That said, he is paying a manager to do some if this for him, especially where it relates to prolonging what’s left of his long term playing career. This guy should be focusing Todd ion getting clean, engaging in some serious self-assessment and keeping fit for next season. Giving him the OK to live in a pub is stupidity at best and the Manager seems to be not acting in Todd’s best interests.

Saturday’s CT headline:

“Carney looks to forget the past”

and on Sunday…

“Carney arrested again”

Looks like Toddy forgot to forget again.

It’s a shame. I remember Atherton as being quite a nice place, in fact I got my ears pierced there. It was sleepy in those days, but progress has no doubt buggered it up. And if not, Carney doubtless will.

This guy is such a entertainer. I’m so looking forward to his first screwup in NQLD.

I cant wait !

At least his family will be nice and close for visiting hours.

where’s todd’s responsibility in all this???

I think Todd’s manager needs to have a good hard look in the mirror, that or Todd should just sack him.

With his own demons and those he’s chosen to surround himself with, he’s doomed to long term failure.

where’s todd’s responsibility in all??? he doesn’t need babysitters he needs to be held responsible for his actions and obviously learn the hard way

I’m wondering did he fall on his head as a child? There is definitely something wrong with his wiring.

*guffaw*

I think Todd may have finally found his raison d’être.

Now if only we could sic Todd onto the cars of people who park across two spaces…

Here is the ABC link.

Car jumping! Hehe!! He’s a born entertainer, anyway ….

Police have charged the former Canberra Raiders start Todd Carney with malicious damage after he was allegedly captured on CCTV cameras jumping on several cars.

Carney and another man have been arrested and charged and will appear in court next month.

The alleged incident happened last weekend in Goulburn, south of Sydney.

Police viewed the security footage before making the arrests.

True, Thurston is a safe bet. Carney could play 5/8 or maybe even hooker.

Bunch of winners

Die Lefty Scum12:23 pm 06 Mar 09

Interesting point New Yeah. They do have a bloke named Thurston playing HB up there though. Even the mighty Carney might struggle to dislodge him.

I wonder if Todd is heading up to FNQ (as opposed to almost anywhere else in NSW/QLD) because Neil Henry (ex Raiders coach) is coaching the Cowboys up there. Perhaps this is part of a plan by the Cowboys to get Todd on board for 2010?

Die Lefty Scum12:03 pm 06 Mar 09

Haha

It’ll be the Eastern Taipan that will die.

Beserk Keyboard Warrior12:00 pm 06 Mar 09

I hope an Eastern Taipan slides up his footy shorts and bites him on the pecker. I’m not even trying to be funny either. Goddamn oxygen thief can die for all I care.

also hear the gig involves a job working in the pub

I hope it involves cleaning the toilet.
I wouldn’t want to drink any piss that Carney serves up. Pun intended.

Farewell Todd Carney: we won’t miss you here in Canberra! You were given plenty of chances to redeem yourself – more than most other players ever get – but you just couldn’t help yourself, could you?

I give him six months before the folks of Atherton run him out of town.

I find the assaulting people randomly and barking at females comments strange. How did he bark at females? Might have given some a stern word which is a different matter. And as for the alleged random assaulting, I would assert it isn’t as random as some may think. Takes two to tango.

He barked at them. Literally. Takes two to tango? Did the other guy piss on him first?

this seems no longer to be a canberra issue – please stop; his name written anywhere, spoken anywhere makes me want to vomit…

This was all news months ago- he barks at girls when he’s out drinking as a way of indicating (and, sorry if this is too subtle for you G-Fresh) that he thinks they are “dogs” ie- “ugly”.

He is not a very nice man.

He might die of dengue fever

Most employees are not on $450k contracts. Anyone with half a brain might realise that after 9 warnings that ‘you will be sacked if you play up again’, they might actually mean it.

I’ve been a Raiders fan since I attended the first home game at Seiffert in 82 as a wee tacker – I’m no fly by nighter. But Carney is a knob, and needed to go both from the Raiders and the NRL – and is lucky he’s not spending time in the big house.

FYI, I also play footy, and love a drink. But I have never pissed on anyone, run away from the cops, assaulted anyone randomly or barked at the female sex. Maybe I’m the strange one…

Let he, given 10 chances to maintain his $450k per annum employment on the condition he behaves, who gets caught drink driving, then pees on others at pubs, and barks at women suffer the consequences of being a half witted tosspot.

Waste of talent yes, but proof that turning a 17 year old into a professional footballer who has never worked an honest day of his life may not be the best human development technique…

Many Canberran’s read Federal Public Servants don’t do an honest days work. Yet they’ll flail their arms around about a bloke getting on the sauce and having a laugh. Lots of people get caught drink driving and the only way this impacts on their work is whether they can get there by alternative means rather than having the infringement impact on their employment contract. Who gets themselves in a state where they may be pissed on? Winners who can’t handle their lager and shouldn’t have had a drink in the first place.

Gee. Let’s just consider Carney to be an experiment shall we? Let’s not develop any 17 year old players into 1st class players. Not going to happen cowboy.

Ok, I’ve checked my crystal ball. With a population of under 6,000 people I give Todd under a week before he personally offends most of the town. I have also foreseen an incident involving Todd the baran peeing in a beer glass and serving it to a punter ala Coogee Bay Hotel.

He would be a big chance play for QLD Country, be picked in the QLD resident team and to play against NSW resident team as curtain raiser to origin game. Not a bad way to keep your name in the frame. Also I wonder what if Thurston gets hurt with the Cowboys…….

What a waste of talent.

Bloody wowsers ruining a great league players career.

Let he without sin cast the first stone!

In the history of stupid ideas, offering Carney a job in a pub when he is serving penenace for his drunken offences is about the stupidest, second only to his actually acepting the position.

Bets anyone on how far into the season we’ll get without Carney making another drunken headline? I give it to the end of pre-season training.

Wow – his career has really taken off since getting his arse kicked out of the Canberra Raiders!

I wonder if the women of Atherton like blokes who bark at them?

Working in a pub might be a great idea.

He will get to see what twits dopey drunks look like when you’re not drunk yourself.

He could’ve gone a bit further north, but I guess that will do.
