The Lego Challenge keeps gathering pace with the latest contribution coming from the Liberal’s Tom Sefton.

For those coming in late there’s two things going on here:

    1) We need donations of Lego (or Lego contributed for return on a by-the-kilogram basis as we don’t plan to separate them back out again)

    2) So we can then spend August and September in the pub watching ACT election candidates trying to make the most impressive possible creation with the available bricks.

It should be noted we’re not doing one giant sit down with all the candidates at once (fun as that could be) but a series run over many nights with a YouTube video of what they make and what comes of it.

We’re certainly encouraging candidates to get in and donate the pieces they’re wanting to see when they sit down with the big box of Lego.

Much appreciated Tom! As a donating candidate he’s allowed to choose venue for his upcoming challenge, in this case Debacle has been nominated.

(Yes we realise clever candidates are getting good cheap publicity out of this. This is not a problem as we aim to encourage clever candidates)

So far the donating tally is Two Liberal, Two Labor, one member of the public (Thank you Ayrton), and no Greens or minor parties.

Yet. We’ll let you know!

Sadly Tom’s unable to find time to play with the lego he donated.

Well, that is a shame. He has just lost the vote of this fair and balanced, impartial, non partisan elector.

He was too busy plotting the next parking spot for the ute.

will there be a special allocation of car parks on major roads in toms plan?

Sadly Tom’s unable to find time to play with the lego he donated.

Is Tom allowed to be in the Liberal party and the Lego party at the same time?

About time we had a descent mass transit system.

Light rail is a possible option, but I can’t see a subway system happening any time soon.

The lego trains come in about $300 so would be interesting to see someone pony up for one. About time we had a descent mass transit system.

I live in Molonglo and the two candidates I seem to see the most of and get the most mail from are, Mark Kulasingham and Tom Sefton. I guess these two are both on the ball enough to realise how powerful the Riot act is for spreading a message.

I was wondering if either of them will get elected. If we assume Molonglo will go 3 ALP, 3 Lib and 1 Green. you would think that the ALP incumbents, Gallager, Barr andf Corbell would get re elected. Then for the Libs you could assume Hanson and Dozspot are locked in leaving one possible seat for: Giulia Jones (the serial candidate), Milligan (ran federally in fraser) and the other 3 non incumbents to fight over. Given the strength of name recognition for both Milligan and Jones i would have thought it hard for any of the others.

But I guess if Mark Kulasingham and Tom Sefton keep up the campaigning either one of them might be able to achieve what I would see as an upset victory.

I havent seen or herd much from any of the others running in Molonglo other than Rattenbury, whpo i assume is pretty safe to get re elected.

Hopefully this will turn into some sort of lego arms race, with each candidate donating bigger and better lego kits in an effort to outdo the others.

we can only hope. It seems the other candidates are a little slower off the mark.

Contact form is up there on the top right under “I want to” guys,

Well, all the competitors will have access to the same blocks.

Until Karl pockets all the Star Wars Figures or takes the wheels from the vehicles. : )

I think the type of Lego being brought in is a good judge of the election strategies and policies of the respective parties.

The Liberal candidates have supplied caravans (promoting tourism), police (law and order/emergency services) and a garbage truck (basic services) amongst others. I’m curious about the Star Wars stuff, maybe a Canberra driven space program.

Labor has given us a crane (infrastructure), police and a few buckets or miscellaneous bits (which I take as an absence of ideas but optimism on their part that something good will come of it).

The Greens have given us nothing.

I suspect the greens are pondering one (or all) of the following:
– abstaining in protest due to the “excess” packaging that comes with new Lego kits;
– trying to work out “how to build a policy?” (or turn something from being a concept/idea into a tangible, regardless of whether it makes a difference in the real world or not); or
– will only take place if everyone has exactly the same blocks to work with, all other competitors agree to call the event a draw (so not do any psychological damage), are allowed to employ the services of skilled lego immigrants, that all the caged Chickens be able to take part, and finally that the lego pieces contributed by used as a scale model version of a light rail solution linking all the towns centres with a high speed train to Sydney, Melbourne and Christmas Island.

Well, all the competitors will have access to the same blocks.

So far, I would only vote for the Ayrton guy, who is not actually running.

In Australia, first you get the Lego, then you get the power, then you get the women.

Head on out to Brick Expo this weekend and you may discover how wrong you are.

(shameless plug for http://www.brickexpo.com.au on at the Hellenic Club Saturday and Sunday)
