The Department of Territory And Municipal Services (TAMS) has announced that they’re making Black Mountain blacker tomorrow when they undertake hazard reduction burns.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort will be made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.

It should make for a great sunset in the leafy suburbs.

I’ll tell you something for nothing, if we didn’t have that Christmas fire in 2001, which wiped out the pines near the Aquarium/Zoo, then the January 20003 bushfires would have had the fuel to roar up the Parkway and on to Black Mountain, possibly taking out Aranda, Turner, O’Connor Ridge and God knows what else! Would have made the scary even scarier.
