The Northside Chronicle reported in September last year plans to rejuvenate Neighbourhood Watch within the Belconnen region, and these efforts have met with early successes, such as in the Charnwood/Dunlop region. Tonight, Tuesday 2nd March 2010, residents of Hawker, Weetangera, Page, Macquarie and the Belconnen Town Centre have the opportunity to express their interest in volunteering for Neighbourhood Watch. The meeting will be from 7pm at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Jamison, which has kindly donated the use of their conference room.

Neighbourhood Watch is a community crime prevention program aimed at promoting a sense of well being, safety and security. The program seeks to reduce crime, particularly property crimes and crime against the person.

A number of active Neighbourhood Watch groups already exist in the region, and moves are afoot to extend the community organisation into new areas.

For more information about the evening, please phone 0409 017 891. Readers can also find information about Neighbourhood Watch on the Internet at http://www.nhwact.com.au/.

I thought Neibourhood Watch finished in the 80’s?
Has it started up again?

I think most of my neighbours would watch as my house was broken into reather than stopping it these days.

The post took a while to get through moderation, but I accept I could have tried posting earlier. There will be other opportunities.

Wish I’d had more notice on this as I would have attended had I been aware earlier.
