Top 20 modernist houses in Canberra?

I live in Urambi and I wouldn’t still be in Canberra if I didn’t.

It’s a great community and I love the funky 70s feel. It really is very well designed as the neighbours are close but you wouldn’t know it as it is set out so well.

Twas a shame that the Seidler residence in Yapunyah St in O’Connor was demolished and replaced with a Better Building new build. Not being critical of the new build so much, more the fact it was ever allowed to proceed in the first instance. Sure, Seidler’s original build had some compromises when viewed in a modern context, but seeing it knocked down was very sad. 🙁

…for some reason I thought “modernist” would have something to do with modern – which I suppose they were when they were built. Only about a half dozen that look ok in my opinion with a lot of dodgy flats that I’m sure were top notch when they were built but now look occupied by low socio-economic individuals who have a high likelihood of having substance abuse issues and probably a flexible definition of ownership when it comes to possessions.

My bad. Found it. But was the architect not inspired by “Falling Waters”?

I always thought that the Siedler designs at Yarrrlumla looked neato.

Oh they should be post-modernist houses not to confused with the Gunghalinist style.
