Top tips for visiting the dog park

Dog parks are a great way for your dog to get some exercise off leash and socialise with other dogs. We’ve prepared a short video with our top tips for making each trip to the dog park enjoyable. See the video for yourself or check out these tips:

Always watch your dog.
Clean up after your own dog and bring a bag to do so.
Remove your dog from any aggressive situations.
Walk around with your dog rather than staying stationary and sitting.
Supervise children carefully.
Ask before patting someone else’s dog.

And enjoy the company of other dog owners!

Even better now that they have facilities for segregating the dogs into large lethargic brreds and smaller agressive breeds. Did you even notice too how the dogs interact with each other and all seem to self asign duties?
The one I visit always has one dog at the entrance to greet all the newcomers and there is another one with a ball that wants to share the ball in a game of retrieving it… Its interesting to watch….

The Forde doggy park isn’t segregated, it’s all one open area. The dogs always get on well there and it’s mostly regulars.

So glad they finally concreted the entrance area as the smaller dogs could just walk under the gates.

I also agree about the children part, Forde has a lot of agility items including a wall that kids love playing on. The dogs are always knocking them off. Most parents don’t care and blame their child, but some go nuts at the dog owners. Most people respond with it’s a DOG PARK. This is where the dogs play, send the kids out to the KIDS PARK if they want to climb all over everything.

What annoys me the most is people who bring their toddlers into a dog park who scream as soon as another dog comes near them.

And remember to shut the gate. The amount of people that can’t do this simple task is unbelievable.
