The Daily Telegraph is running hard with news of climate change protestors getting some direct action in at Parliament House.
- Five minutes after Treasurer Wayne Swan began his Budget address to hundreds in the Great Hall, two women – who had bought tickets to hear him speak – interrupted by screaming the Government had to do more to tackle climate change.
Outside the hall, in Parliament’s main foyer, a group of six women – all from climate change action group rising Tide Newcastle – linked arms with pipes.
…
Australian Federal Police officers eventually broke up the women from one another, but then it was too late to realise the women had provided a distraction for two men, who started abseiling down the front of Parliament House.
They unfurled a banner which said “Carbon Budget Blowout”.
And this after the guard contingent was reduced.
