Tough day at Parliament House

The Daily Telegraph is running hard with news of climate change protestors getting some direct action in at Parliament House.

Five minutes after Treasurer Wayne Swan began his Budget address to hundreds in the Great Hall, two women – who had bought tickets to hear him speak – interrupted by screaming the Government had to do more to tackle climate change.

Outside the hall, in Parliament’s main foyer, a group of six women – all from climate change action group rising Tide Newcastle – linked arms with pipes.

Australian Federal Police officers eventually broke up the women from one another, but then it was too late to realise the women had provided a distraction for two men, who started abseiling down the front of Parliament House.

They unfurled a banner which said “Carbon Budget Blowout”.

And this after the guard contingent was reduced.

The truth never got in the way of good media story before…

Australian Federal Police officers eventually broke up the women from one another

Not quite. Parliamentary Security Service, with their reduced numbers, broke up the women inside and took them outside for the waiting AFP-UP.
