Tourist confusion - How to get to Gungahlin from Belconnen when you are coming up to the Glenloch Interchange?

Can anyone tell me how a tourist can head down the GDE after making a mistake and Driving toward the Glenloch interchange on William Hovell Drive?

Some friends were stumped, as there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to do it, and they balked at the black mountain carpark sign. Is that the best way to get onto the GDE, or isn’t there an option that way?

Tourists are shagged everywhere they go in Canberra. I love the signs in the city that point east along Parkes Way and the only text on them is “Queanbeyan”. Or coming up the Tuggers Parkway and following the signs to Belconnen – you end up in West Belconnen, kilometres away from the town centre.

Awesome, thanks Sgt.Bungers. I had wondered about that – it looked possible but I wasn’t sure.

I suppose it’s unlikely many people would want to take that route. But coming home from a stint at Stromlo I would LOVE to take the GDE! Being a northsider my whole life I tend to forget that you can get out via Cotter Road!

I think the idea is that, if you are coming from Belconnen it’s much easier to use Belconnen Way to access GDE.

Or Ginninderra drive, or via William Slim….or more to the point if they’re leaving belconnen and heading north……why did they head south.

As said before if you’ve made a wrong turn you have to put up with the inconvenience of finding out how to turn around….or just do what everyone else does and u-turn on the median.

I always found it best to follow the signs. Call me crazy

I think most places are confusing when you’re a tourist, and fairly easy to navigate when you’re a local. There are parts of Canberra I find way more confusing than this.

I guess sometimes when you take a wrong turn, you have to put up with going out of your way.

You can head into the black “mountain carpark” off parks way. Once in the car park there’s an exit directly onto the GDE.

Or you can turn left onto Bindubi street before the interchange, turn right onto Belco Way, then turn left onto the GDE.

I think the idea is that, if you are coming from Belconnen it’s much easier to use Belconnen Way to access GDE.

Yeah it’s crazy with no link up of two major roads. If you don’t head south you end up on Parkes Way and you can’t turn around until you hit the Lawson Crescent bridge to the ANU/Museum.

go south, exit at lady denman drive, go under the parkway, come back up and move into the northbound lane.

seems a bit crazy that it is the only way to do it. why didn’t the act govt build an access from william hovell drive?

go south, exit at lady denman drive, go under the parkway, come back up and move into the northbound lane.
