ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the rider of a green trail bike seen riding around Narrabundah in the past few weeks.
About 10am yesterday (Wednesday, December 21) police were on a routine patrol of Narrabundah when they observed a green trail bike turn on to Boolimba Street from the Narrabundah shops. The rider had a green shirt wrapped around his head and no helmet.
Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the rider by activating their emergency lights and siren however, the rider accelerated away. Due to the risk to the person riding without a helmet, police did not pursue. The rider was last seen turning onto Kootara Crescent.
A short time later, police found the motorcycle lying on the roadway on Matina Street where it appeared to have been dropped. A witness told police the rider had run off down the pedestrian pathway on Gymea Street.
The trail bike is a green Kawasaki KL250D. The rider was wearing grey tracksuit pants with a white stripe, white sandshoes, and a red long-sleeved top.
Another witness had taken a photograph of the rider the day before on Kootara Crescent and provided that to police.
Sergeant Greg Lester from Woden Police Station said that police had received numerous complaints over recent from residents in Narrabundah regarding unregistered trail bikes being ridden up and down the street, causing a nuisance.
“If there is an ongoing issue or concern over trail bikes being ridden in your area, please report it to police. We will attend when we can. There is a priority system for police which means that if an emergency occurs or a job of higher priority comes in, attendance for a traffic complaint is put on hold,” Sergeant Lester said.
“However residents can help us with issues such as this by taking photos of the offender, gathering as much detail as possible about the rider and the bike, and contacting Police Operations on 131-444,” he said.
Anyone who recognises the rider or knows the owner of the trail bike is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
