Trams in Canberra?

No I’m not talking plans for the future, or pipe dreams of future light rail. I am talking about actual trams in Canberra. I think many people may know of the ones that used to be in the Woden Tradies, and a few people may know of the one that was lent to us by the Sydney Tramways Museum some years back.

Well my mate relates of one time he drove out of Canberra on a random drive from Belconnen out west, ending at a dam that may or may not have been Cotter Dam. Anyway, up on a hill he spotted two old green trams side by side.

Anyone know of these or any other old trams / rail rolling stock in the ACT? We want to do a photo shoot of some. Plus maybe we can convince some of the public transport types that there already are trams in Canberra, they just don’t go anywhere.

Not really trams or current, but ACTION’s buses 001, 002 & 003, otherwise known as Mitsubishi 417s heavily styled operated around Canberra in the mid 90s. Crafted wood interiors, a far cry from the plastic fantastic interiors of most buses. The routes they served were heaps popular too, a free inner city loop that the Greenies should be pushing for. Sold to a company in Katoomba and one was then onsold to Queensland.

There is still a tram at the Dickson Tradies.

I think you will find that the Dickson Tradies had the trams, if I recall Woden had a different theme trains maybe?

Anyway if I am not mistaken the National Museum is meant to have a few somewhere in their vaults.
