Transact Outage?

Is there still a transact outage in large parts of the city? I live in Bonner, and there has been a FTTH internet outage since yesterday afternoon.

Am I the only one, or is this widespread?

The transact outages page is not updated too often it seems.

Issues in Crace about two weeks ago, and today I receive a nicely worded letter from TransACT apologising for the disruption to the FTTP broadband service and they also throw a $15 credit onto the next bill.

Im in Bonner using Transact/velocity and have not noticed any connection problems or outages.

Velocity rocks.

I thought the title said “Transact Outrage”, and now reading the thread it seems quite appropriate!

Update: After 35 minutes of being on hold last evening, I finally got through to the technical support team. They had to re-initialise the ONT remotely, and that seemed to have fixed the issue. I also had to reset my wireless router and reset that to get my connection back.

The server my PC had acquired for DNS was named DNR2.transact.net.au. Not any more, obviously.

Strange, TransACT are simply the cable provider, not the service provider, strange your system is finding their DNS. You can try setting your secondary DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (Google’s public DNS server), that should allow you to resolve addresses if your local DNS isnt working.

Also, their DNS servers weren’t working at one point in late Jan, giving nil response for selected websites.

It is fairly unlikely youre using a DNS service provided by TransACT. More likely that is your ISPs DNS server falling over. Netspeed by any chance?

I have been trying to contact the Transact so-called “Customer Support” for the past week to tell them we are dropping their wonderful (not) service for another provider, each time I have hung up after waiting 10 mins.

I tried this. Ive tried to cancel my account since December, however they keep sending me invoices and claiming they never received my request to cancel the service. Even after personally visiting the shopfront, calling up, emailing and sending them a written letter asking the account to be closed. Apparently it has been closed this month, but I guess Ill wait until invoice date before feeling assured they really have cancelled the service.

I actually got through once – this was a couple of years ago – I bought a lotto ticket straight after and won $100. As previously stated by others here, go to the whirlpool forum page for quicker answers, better yet, do what we did and go to another provider as soon as you can.

Could be a Telstra problem as it took me 12 hours to get some text messages through my Bigpond service yesterday. Glad they weren’t important – texts rarely are.

TransACT are a wholesaler so it can’t be anything to do with Telstra as customers aren’t on Telstra’s infrastructure.

Are you suggesting that TransACT don’t use Telstra’s infrastructure? I thought all internet traffic went through Telstra who are the wholesaler. When I had a short experience (24 hours) with a TransACT ADSL service it came through the Monash telephone exchange which last time I checeked is owned by Telstra. TransACT blamed Telstra for the failure of the “service” they provided me with.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. TransACT provide internet over VDSL, VDSL2, FTTH and ADSL. Of all of those, only ADSL would be using Telstra infrastructure, the rest is TransACT cable/fibre. As the OP was referring to FTTH, that is on TransACT’s fibre and thus Telstra wouldn’t come into it.

No worries GBT; I thought FTTH was an expletive so it’s my mistake really.

Have you tried the “call TransACT” option?

I think they’ve been having intermittent issues since December. We’ve had ours go off several times since then – they even came out and replaced the box at one point when it stopped working completely.

You’re not the only one. Looks like they’ve had intermittent issues since early May judging by this forum thread, with people complaining of whole-of-network issues yesterday as well – http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1910238

A handy link for you – TransAct discussions on Whirlpool – http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/67?g=46

we had an outage a few days ago from about early afternoon to late evening (this was in tuggers area) idk who else got affected by that either but all we could do was wait and try restarting the box every now and again to see what was working again

Have you tried the “call TransACT” option?

We lost Transact connectivity yesterday at 5 pm, I noticed our Transact box was doing a reset which I think means they were sending a remote set top box update .I turned it off and back on to restore Internet.

Franklin has been experiencing intermittent disruptions for over two weeks now. The internet connection (FTTH) is so unreliable that I have had to resort to using the internet and sending/receiving work emails via my phone, using 3G. Not good TransACT.

For all your Transact needs: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/67?g=46

That forum will tell you of an outage before their Help Desk is even aware…
