For a least 3 hours this morning the entire TransACT web and phone service was down. I gave them a call at 11.30 and was told that it was a system wide problem and they weren’t sure when it would be fixed. It’s working fine now…

any ideas what happened? maybe telstra infiltrated the system…

Sorry for the plentiful grammatical and typographical errors. I have to lay off the Smirnoff.

Yep. Started in Conder at about 8pm. I lost both my Bigpond ADSL and nextG Bigpond connections. ADSL comes on sometimes. nextG still out.

Called Bigpond techos several times, long cues of your automatically disconnected. Finally got through after 40min wait.

I have submited it as a new item, but incase it doesn’t get posted, here’s what I know from Bigpond tech support and their website:

– Several scheduled outage today and tonight for many areas of NSW, QLD and Vic.
– Bigpond servers are for some reason blocking international websites. Problem is being investigated.
– No scheduled outages in Canberra/ACT according to Bigpond tech support (although their website lists Erindale).
– Current problems with Bigpond servers, affacting Bigpond website, email and usage meters.

Anyone else have a long internet outage today? Both at work (Bigpond)in Gungahlin and home (tpg) in Nicholls, out for 9 hours from 10am or so.

B2, I’m a sysadmin. I’ve usually got a fair idea of whether my network is connected to the outside world or not. I’d be inclined to think that the person who told you “everything is dead” was just trying to save the hassle of explaining the technicalities to someone who might not understand them, or avoiding the inevitable “well, if some people are working, why can’t you fix mine?” questions.

The problem was “Authentication and dataflow issues” according to their outages page. Problem was more widespread than the suburbs they listed, though.

Nah.. doubtful telstra infiltrated the system. If it was telstra related, they would first of all say there wasn’t a problem, then deny the problem was their fault, then pass the blame onto someone else.

TransACT is apparently very excited about the new fibre optic network the G9 group is planning (it is a member). I would question how an organization that has so much trouble keeping a few thousand local subscribers online expects to be able to support a 10x or more.

To TransACTs credit though, there mobile service is the best. Mainly because it’s just re badged Vodafone. Great coverage, better than Telstra CDMA on the coast and I can have 5 phones on a multi-sim plan for $5 a month, vs Telstra who would charge me $100 a month for 5 nextG phones.
My opinion, TransACT’s calling is mobile telephony!

Was strange. Also ABC lost signal on transtv for a while tonight.

TransACT = ACTEW = brownouts

Was the problem with all Transact customers or only for those using the fiber optic Stage One of the network.

If it also affected the Stage Two areas which use Telstra’s dSLAMS, then TransACTs got a lot of explaining to do.

When i rang they said the entire web and tv network was out. i’d be inclined to think they might know if it affected the whole network or only parts.

Our Transact connection was out yesterday with a problem affecting our particular make and model of STB. Its been fine today so I don’t think the error affected the whole network.

I called them and their message said it was ACT wide for internet and Transact TV.

Couldn’t have been the entire transACT web service – our connection at work has been fine all day. I did notice I couldn’t get to my home machine this morning though.

That must have been why RiotACT was down when I tried to post my story earlier.
