The TransACT Rocks Movember team has capped off a month of intense fundraising with a worldbeating total of $134 000 – the highest amount raised worldwide by a team of ten or under.

TransACT’s team of five local businessmen and one businesswoman combined their hair-growing efforts for Movember, an annual celebration of the moustache during November, to highlight men’s health and raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue.

Team Captain, TransACT CEO Ivan Slavich, was responsible for raising $65 000 of the team’s final tally, making his ‘first ever ‘mo’ the highest earning hairy lip in the world.

“This incredible result really demonstrates the generosity of Canberra people and its business sector,” he said. “Thanks to their support, our generous sponsors, the commitment of the team and TransACT staff, we have been able to raise significant funds for the Movember cause and done much to increase awareness of men’s health issues.”

“TransACT is pleased to, once again, have been able to do our bit for the local – and indeed, in this case, global – community.”

According to Movember spokesperson, Jim Slattery, 2010 has seen new records broken in terms of both registrations and funds raised with over 447,600 people registering raising over $64million.

“The TransACT team played a vital role in helping us achieve success this year; the commitment and support they’ve shown for our cause highlights the impact that an individual team can have on the state of men’s health when it comes to raising awareness and funds for our men’s health partners.”

The hirsute TransACT Rocks Movember team included TransACT General Manager Retail David Parkes; Hellenic Club of Canberra President Theo Dimarhos; Rock Development Director John Efkarpidis; King O’Malleys Managing Director Peter Barclay; and Sybil’s Closet Owner Danielle Neale, who participated by letting her leg hair grow.

Their busy schedule of Movember fundraising events included a family market day, fundraising dinner, Movember Gala Party, the “Big Shave Off” finale, weekly Friday barbeques and merchandise sales.
