CityNews have a genuinely interesting article on the launch of TransACT’s mobile phone service.

Some innovative pricing models in there and it’ll be interesting if they can pull it off.

But this paragraph raised my hackles.

TransACT is using real Canberra identities as ambassadors of the TransMOBILE campaign – Canberra TransACT Capital Lauren Jackson, local businessman Richard Luton, singer and songwriter Ashleigh Mannix, and small business owner Cameron Major and his family.

I’m a big LJ fan, but i’m hoping the others are paying TransACT to be part of this promotion and not the other way around.

… and Thumper and Maelinar ?

I love stories about “famous Canberrans” – but where’s Jim Murphy?

Cunning.
I shall have to keep my eye out for those nasty journalistic/marketing rouses.

In CityNews, yes they generally are. That’s how come it’s got the reputation it does. But I suspect an advertorial done well should be more subtle — if you don’t want people to know it’s advertorial at least.

So that’s what an advertorial looks like, is it supposed to be that transparent?
