Treasury gets rolled into the Chief Minister's domain. New works directorate for the Treasurer

Chief Minister Gallagher has unveiled a pretty big restructure of the ACT Public Service:

“In order to provide improved support from the ACTPS for whole of government decision making and the delivery of the ACT Government’s policy agenda, I have combined the Chief Minister and Cabinet and Treasury Directorates into a single directorate.

“The expanded Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate will provide increased focus to policy advice, enhance the ACTPS strategic policy capacity, and continue to foster the collaborative and efficient delivery of the Government’s priorities. These arrangements were foreshadowed in Governing the City State and it is timely to put this in place at the beginning of the new term of Government,” the Chief Minster said.

The Treasury Division of CMCD will report directly to the Treasurer.

The Commerce and Works Directorate will bring together elements of the ACTPS including Shared Services, capital works, the ACT Revenue Office and ACT Insurance Authority. It will be headed by Ms Megan Smithies and report to the Treasurer.

This appears to have more to do with the strange internal dynamics of the cabinet than any simple division of roles.

“so Labour/Greens can fudge the books in privacy” made me laugh!
A bit of a worry though . . .

Our esteemed Revenue Commissioner, Mr Salisbury, and his minions are off to Commerce and Works. And the Government Business Enterprises people, who are responsible for Rhodium and TotalCare disasters (amongst others), are also moving.

Commerce and Works Directorate looks like a stunning organisation already!

Yep – reorganising the departments. That always works.

Perhaps Directorates are like Windows, an occasional reboot makes them work better?

🙂

I think it’s probably the equivalent of ‘sit there quietly until your mum comes to take you home’

More like prioritising the super fund top-ups for the MLAs.

so Labour/Greens can fudge the books in privacy

Yep, I read that as no confidence in Ms Smithies as under-Treasurer but let’s create a Directorate where she has plenty of beans to count. What could possibly go wrong?

I wounder what the handover brief will look like!

“Here are a bunch of papers and doodles that I’ve gathered up over the years. Someone has a spreadsheet too. Don’t ask anyone to do anything, or if they know anything, because I’ve screamed at them for so long they cannot speak anymore.

Oh, I forgot, the budget estimates are made up.

Good luck.”

She will have no idea and get the boot in about 6 months.

Maybe they are looking for a Treasury department rather than a Finance department that can’t count?

LOL!

Look at what functions (ie who) that are being moved to the Commerce and Works Directorate. And look at who’s heading it.

These are the people who are going to build a light rail system in the ACT. People of Canberra, run for your lives!

PS: And I would have thought Katy would have told us before the election she had no confidence in ACT Treasury.

I wonder which other Treasury heads will roll

Total vote of no confidence in ACT Treasury.
