Territory And Municipal Services are letting us know they’re getting busy with planting new trees in the Bush Capital:

“In late winter, 274 trees were planted across 65 suburbs to replace those that died, were removed or vandalised,” said Fleur Flanery, Director of City Services within Territory and Municipal Services.

“A further 660 trees sites are ready for planting on major arterial roads, open spaces and residential areas. Recent rain and warmer temperatures provide the perfect conditions to undertake these spring-specific plantings.”

Ms Flanery said the trees were selected to compliment the surrounding landscape and are well adapted to Canberra’s climate. In total, 39 different species of trees of both native and exotic species will be planted including Eucalyptus, Pyrus speces (Ornamental Pears), Quercus species (Oaks) and Fraxnus (Ash) varieties.

“Spatial technology which records the tree’s location, origin and species is being used to help inform management decisions about these new trees. This technology will improve care of the trees into the future as watering and pruning regimes are recorded and assessed.

If you see anyone vandalism the new plantings they’d like you to call 13 22 81.

As for the numbers – 274 trees planted in single year is pretty pissweak. They bulldozed 10,000+ last year to make way for Wright, the first suburb of Molonglo. Still waiting for these to be replaced (who knows, maybe if I call 13 22 81 they’ll do it).

Um, clearly spelling is not TAMS’ strong suit. It’s supposed to be species, not speces, and Fraxinus as opposed to Fraxnus.

You’ve really got to wonder about the professionalism of people who can’t get a basic press release right.

Typos may be acceptable on RiotAct but in public govt-issued documents … FAIL!!!
