Tree register a closed book?

The Greens’ indefatigable Caroline Le Couteur has spotted yet another glaring piece of failure from a Government which excels in this area:

“In 2005, Mr Stanhope said the Government would go through the process of identifying ‘tree by tree, street by street, suburb by suburb’ significant trees and would register them.” Ms Le Couteur said.

“But since the Tree Protection Act commenced in 2005, the Government has listed zero trees on the protection register.”

I just don’t know if it’s enough to shake my general numbness at crashing incompetence.

Will all the trees at the aboretum be automatic entries in the tree register?

Cause geez that’s gonna take some time to write all their names down…..

They also allowed the removal of an old remnant yellow box grouping in Gungahlin, to make way for a liquor store (am I remembering that right?).

I”m guessing the tree register was
– too much work
– became a conflict of interests.

ACT Govt turned a blind eye three years ago when two of its employees illegally cut down a tree in their own back yard in the inner north – no response, no action despite a formal complaint.

Good on C le C for chasing this one up. If you care about trees, and if you believe the Tree Register is anything other than an instrument of bureacractic oppresssion and revenue raising, then this is truly appalling.

Waiting for the next installment, to prove they actually do care about trees.

ACT govt continually aims too high. They over-promise and can never deliver.

And they don’t know when to leave well enough alone (ie – Revolve was working well, so they messed it up.)

This tree register was never required. They should have just left it alone. I doubt it impressed anyone when they promised to create this tree register anyway.
