Tree trimming scam ?

Last Saturday we were approached by a guy who offered to trim some of our trees, as part of a fundraising thing he was doing for his church.

He came back Sunday, trimmed everything, took his money and said he’d be back Monday with the truck to pick everything up.

He called Monday and said he’d be by Tuesday, I called him Wednesday, he said Thursday. We’ve still got all the branches sitting outside 🙁

Just a warning. He’s a polynesian guy, driving a silver Magna.

I’m kicking myself because I should have known better. At least he did a decent job of trimming the trees.

Anyone else had a similar experience on the Northside? I think his “church” is in Spence – he talked about a fire there a little while ago. I’d be interested in tracking down some more contact info.

What’s the number to call for a trim? Was he cheap?

Well, a week and a half, and a phone call to his head office finally got the stuff removed. Less of a scam, and more, as lobster pointed out, just lazy.

That would be the Rosehill Tongan Community Hall,. 30 Scattergood Place, Spence.

These guys have been around in Fraser also. One of my near neighbours had a tree downed and they left a 6′ stump. I would be very wary, especially about their insurance cover.

But take pity on him, he is driving a magna ..

As soon as church or god is mentioned you should always be wary.

Although it sounds like he isn’t really a scammer – just lazy.

Sounds like the same guy who showed up at our place offering to trim trees maybe three or four weeks back. Something about him made me wary, and I politely sent him on his way (in spite of the fact that we have several trees in serious need of work – I should really get on to that). On the up-side, if he actually trimmed the trees, your only real problem is a surplus of firewood – shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone to take that off your hands. A post on freecycle should rid you of it in no time.
