Tropfest 2006 - what did we think?

The Canberra Times is reporting on last night’s tropfest at Stage88.

The CT’s 17,000 crowd figure looks a lot better to me than the 4,000 Adam Spencer slandered us with during one of his live crosses.

So, two questions:

1) With the crowd bursting out of the Stage88 space, where to next? (Regatta Point with the screen on a barge anyone?)

2) If you went, what was your favourite? (I vote for “Carnivore Reflux”)

(Oh and hello to the rather cute girl in the crowd who was reading RiotACT on her mobile phone)

“Dad’s Choice” has been announced as the winner. “Burst” took second place, and “The Story Of Bubble Boy” and “Fishy” shared third.

hehe, Snakeman has been disqualified according to the smh.

well up close the sound was waaay too loud.

I wasn’t impressed to see the volume turned up with a little slider appearing on the screen, rocking engineering there…

for such a big crowd you’ve to to wonder if FM simulcast a’la skyfire isn’t the way forward?

And the winner of the $1,000,000 Tropest Feature Program is……..

Peter Carstairs for Pacific

Now we just need to wait for the overall winner.

I thought the films were great. Goggles was definately one of my faves.

Unfortunately i thought the screen size could have been bigger and the sound slightly louder. I’m not sure what sized audience they had anticpated but i could neither read the subtitles nor hear the softer speaking.

I didn’t try the food but other than that, there seemed to be enough toilet facilities and enough beer. A good night out.

The second last one. So you understood it.

I meant the one with the red headed girl, was that the second last one?

Apparently they did have a full set of the films in case the feed went down.

The on-site production was a bit crappy and could have handled that confusion better IMHO.

Epic wouldn’t be as cool a venue. Transact can stop trains with the push of a button – floating a big screen should be a piece of cake.

Although continuing the feed to the rest of the nation whilst Sydney shuts down is a bit of a problem.

The second last one. So you understood it. I think I fell asleep.

My vote for Carmichael and Shane. It got the most laughs. I enjoyed Carnivore Reflux although I think I was too far up the back to see it properly. Which is why I didn’t understand the first one all that well.

My vote is also for Goggles.

I think a sensible venue would be the stage at EPIC. From memory I think they can fit about 30,000 in there. And it’ll be cheaper then costs of a floating screen at regatta point.

I liked the one set on the tram – can’t remember what it was called.

Regatta Point could work, or maybe somewhere on the opposite shore of the lake?

It was a hell of a lot more than 4,000 that’s for sure. I think my favorites were the tram one and I think the second last one.

I liked Goggles the best — the one with the kid who stood up to the nasty older girls.

Well you need a mobile with a web-browser, most of the new 3 phones will do it. our site design was very conscious of trying to make it easy to read on little screens.

As for your details, go to the “user” page to update. Or click here.

How do you read RiotACT on your mobile??

Oh, and while I’m off subject, how do I change my URL in my logon – I can’t find where to alter it. Not that I can find my password either, d’oh!
