Just quickly. A removal truck has tried to go under the bridge there by Coles in Queanbeyan. Well, I should say he did go under the bridge,,,but he is also now missing the roof off the back of his truck.

Detours are in place for obvious reasons. (i.e. no going off the main steet down to the underground carpark of Riverside Plaza)

Best one I remember was when we (volunteers in another location) were responding to a fire alarm with lights and sirens and the driver in front of us wouldn’t move even though we were so close she couldn’t miss us. We used the air horns and then she hears us. Then a couple of days later we get notification of a complaint about our behaviour. Guess if it had been her house it would have been different
Don’t know how you can miss a large red object 2 mtrs from the rear of a car with flashing lights and sirens but it happens

That’s why God invented rear vision mirrors and wing mirrors.

A lot of cars these days are so insulated and air conditioned, people are in their own little environment. In the US, I guess they had this problem a lot longer, and so emergency vehicles (especially fire engines) have these massive train horn things they blast away with. You can hear them for *miles*.

I think that people who fail to move over when emergency vehicles approach under lights should be subject to 6 points off their licence and a sizable fine. This sort of behaviour indicates complete lack of basic road observation, and indicates a driver doing something well outside the expected level of competency required for vehicle control.

So that’s what those flashy things are for! I thought it was just a bling thing…

Can’t we just install some kind of ‘bumper’ around emergency vehicles so they can push idiots out of the way? I’d love to see that with a fire truck.

A bit sad that sirens aren’t enough any more, they need american-style blast horns to get people out of the way.

A bit sad that emergency service vehicles are not equipped with rocket launchers as this is the only way some people are going to get the message to move out of the way. The other day I saw a fire truck with lights and sirens blaring comimg down Flemington Rd just near the tip/Aussie Junk near Mitchell/Harrison and the tool in the car in front would not move out of the way and continued to dawdle along at the speed limit. Eventually the fire truck overtook on the wrong side of the road almost forcing an oncoming car to run off the road.

At Gungahlin TC the other week I saw cops trying to pull this Asian woman over in the main Woolies carpark, they had their lights and siren going and were only centimetres from her rear bumper and she was driving around seemingly ignorant to the comotion going on behind her.

He’ll be in trouble! That’s a very busy little slice of road. Something happened on the King’s Highway or Captain’s Flat Road this arvo, around 4.30pm on, as there was a LOT of sirens, furious blasting of warning horns etc, several series’ of them.
