I’m fully aware of the abuses animals suffer everyday and how many of them die everyday. It just shouldn’t be joked about.

I don’t agree at all. Robin William’s death should not be joked about because it would obviously offend his loved ones. Sheep? I’m not so sure.

I’m sorry if I offended you though.

So you’re happy to joke about death, as long as there’s nobody around to be offended by it? If Robin Williams had no living family, would you then be ok to joke about his death?

I’m not about to go eulogising the deaths of 110 sheep, but on the other hand I don’t really think it’s funny. In between the sheep that died instantly, and those that were destroyed later, I’m sure there were plenty who were slowly crushed to death, dying painful and slow deaths.

I’d love to know whether the reaction would have been the same if this had been a story about a truck load of puppies rolling over.

Anytime an animal has to experience pain at the hands of humans is a tragedy.

Maybe so, in the pages of Duncton Wood, The Plague Dogs, or Charlotte’s Web.

Out here in the real world, a dead animal is only a tragedy if it was the very last of its species.

Some people on this blog demand to be offended.

Taking a fence is a pastime for some.

And hello to all our New Zealand readers…

110 sheep were killed, hardly a laughing matter.

That would be what, one day’s worth of mutton on the shelves of Coles & Woollies? Not exactly a tragedy in the scheme of things.

Some were killed instantly in the crash and others had to be put down on the site. Anytime an animal has to experience pain at the hands of humans is a tragedy.

And how do you think animals who don’t die ‘at the hands of humans’ pass on? Peacefully in an open field, surrounded by loved ones?

No, they generally die miserably or violently, and often not quickly either. I’m certainly not happy that the sheep were killed, but I’m not going to pretend that I’m grieving for them either.

Depends on how they were killed. I’m guessing it was pretty painful and slow for a fair portion of those 110 sheep.

Too right.
Some of these posters deserve to be lambasted.
