Truck Escort This Morning

This morning at about 4:40am there was a Police Escort for a large truck on the Monaro Highway. The unusual thing is that it was going the wrong way up the highway!

There were about 3 police cars directing traffic to pull over to the side of the road; this was near Canturf not far from the turn off to Morshead Drive (northbound).

Any ideas why it would be going up the wrong side of the highway?

Just to clarify it was heading south towards the bridge that goes over Newcastle Street (which is currently being duplicated), but on the northbound side of the highway. I guess in hindsight it would have to be a clearance issue considering the time of day, with the least amount of traffic.

Probably the one picking up a crane from the monaro highway duplication.

Perhaps it was delivering a truckload of money to cover Peter Slipper’s weekly expenses; and like Slipper, the truck driver couldn’t decide which side he should be on?

Width or Height, it would have been a clearance/access issue.

I think you mean it would not fit ACROSS the northbound bridge lane at the Molonglo which is so narrow a car has trouble tracking through it. A lot of heavy movers have expanding axles on the float being towed so they wouldn’t have a hope of negotiating the puny, glorified bike path that is the northbound lane.

I’m going to say because it could not fit under the bridge from Fyshwick to be on the right side of the road??
